FOREWORD
- Components of the machine and some attachments operate at high temperatures. The engine and exhaust system are the primary sources of high temperatures. Damaged or incorrectly maintained electrical systems can also generate arcs or sparks.
- Regularly remove flammable debris (leaves, straw, etc.) to prevent fire hazards.
- Inspect and clean the operator’s area, engine compartment, and engine cooling system daily to prevent fire hazards and overheating.
- Flammable fluids such as fuels, lubricants, and coolants can cause fires if leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components. Handle with caution.
- Check electrical wiring and connections for damage. Keep battery terminals clean and tight. Repair or replace any damaged or loose/frayed wires.
- Follow the Operation & Maintenance Manual procedure for connecting the battery and jump-starting. Do not jump-start or charge a frozen or damaged battery. Keep open flames and sparks away from batteries. No smoking in the battery charging area.
- Regularly check hydraulic tubes, hoses, and fittings for damage and leaks. Do not use open flame or bare skin to check for leaks.
- Properly route hydraulic tubes and hoses with adequate support and secure clamps.
- Clean fluid spills promptly using commercial non-flammable solvents. Do not use petrol or diesel fuel for cleaning parts.
- Stop the engine and allow it to cool before refueling. No smoking! Avoid refueling near open flames or sparks. Fill the fuel tank outdoors.
- Note that Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) poses a greater static ignition hazard. Consult with your fuel or fuel system supplier to ensure compliance with proper grounding and bonding practices.
- Do not use ether or starting fluids on engines with glow plugs, as they can cause explosions and injuries. Follow the procedure in the Operation & Maintenance Manual for battery connection and jump-starting.
- Regularly check and maintain the spark arrester exhaust system, which controls the emission of hot particles from the engine and exhaust system. The muffler and exhaust gases remain hot. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for cleaning the spark arrester muffler if equipped.
