• Place new cylinder head gasket on the engine block.
• NOTE: When. installing gas- ket with built-in fire rings, the end with the 1/4″ diameter hole, Inset C, must be to the rear of the block.
• Be sure the two dowel rings are installed in their proper location, Inset A.
• If gasket with built-in fire rings is not used, install new fire rings with either side up.
• NOTE: The fire rings must be instal- led dry.
• Install new gasket between timing cover and cylinder head, coating it with a sealer.
• Install cylinder head
• Lubricate the head bolts or studs and nuts with clean engine oil before installing them. Following the sequence shown in Inset B, tighten the head bolts or nuts
• Install the water pump and a new gasket, coating the gasket with a sealer. Torque the water pump stud nuts 20425 ft. lbs. Install the fan belt and adjust.
• Coat the push rods with clean engine oil and install them in their original location.
• Install the rocker arm assembly.
• NOTE: The rear mounting bolt is drilled for oil passage to the rocker arm shafts. Torque the bolts  to 25-30 ft. lbs. Adjust the valve tappet clearance, refer to page 18. In- stall injectors.
