General :
The 689G is a Telesoopic Handler powered by a Perkins l0044T diesel engine. A
three speed powershift transmission is used to control speed and direction. Hydraulic
brakes are used on all four wheels. The service brakes are a wet disc design installed
in the planetary hubs of the axles. An “inching” brake function permits the operator
greater lift speed tor lifting loads while the position of the machine can be adjusted
slowly for alignment of a load. The parking brake uses a disc~type caliper mounted on
the front drive shaft at the transmission case and is applied with a control lever neer
the operator’s seat The hydraulic pump, mounted on the transmission, operates the
boom, brake, frame leveling, and steering functions.
Steering
This series of Telescopic Handlers’ has three modes of steering:
1. Front Wheel Only Steering: Is normally used only when traveling on roads.
2. Crab Steering (All Wheels Turn In The Same Direction): Is used to move
away from buildings or to avoid wheel ruts.
3. Coordinated Steering (Reer Wheets Turn In Opposite Direction From Front
Wheels): Provides the greatest maneuverability and is used most of the time.
