• GENERAL The instructions contained in this Service Manual are for the information and guidance of servicemen who are responsible for the repair and overhaul d Intenational Back Hoes. Throughout this manual the terms ‘LEFT’. ‘RIGHT’, ‘FRONT’ and ‘REAR’ are to be taken as applicable to a person seated in the Back Hoe operator’s ~at. facing the Back Hoe bucket. Each group. with the exception d GROUP 1 is sub-divided into sections applicable to one Back Hoe type and is identified by a section letter. As an example, Section A of each group refers to the B-1 and B-1 Heavy Duty Back Hoe.
• SERVICE TOOLS International Machines are designed so that few special tools are required. However. when the use of inexpensive special service equipment will facilitate work. such equipment is mentioned in the relevant group. Where this equipment can easily be made in the workshop. dimensiona! drawings have been provided.
• SERVICE PARTS International machines deserve genuine I.H. service parts. The best materials obtainable and experience gained through many years of manufacturing, enable the International Harvester Company to produce quality that will not be found in imitation or ‘just as good’ service parts. No serviceman can afford to guarantee a repair job  has not been serviced with genuine I.H. service parts. For the correct service parts to be used. always refer to the Parts Catalogue. These catalogues are accurate and are brought up to date continually by issuing revisions.
