Introduction:

Preventive Maintenance Program:

• A Preventive Maintenance Program is a systematic series of operations performed periodically on
  equipment to prevent breakdowns.
• Any breakdown WILL reduce productivity and increase overhead expense. Machinery is only new at one
  point in time. From that moment, the machinery begins to deteriorate through use and aging. A well
  organized maintenance program will avoid unexpected high- cost breakdowns and will increase
  component life.
• A systematic approach to the program should be followed and detailed records of all findings kept,
  to detect potential problem areas. Valuable time and effort can be saved if defects are corrected
  before they lead to a major breakdown. The records should be reviewed often and kept on file for
  future reference.
• Personnel involved in the program should go through an established training program, to know WHAT
  to check and HOW to rectify any potential problem area. When personnel are able to do routine
  maintenance and normal repairs efficiently, downtime is reduced and machine productivity increased.
  Also, to keep the machine in good running condition, the necessary parts, tools and current information should be kept on hand.
