INTRODUCTION

Preventive Maintenance

1. A regular and planned inspection of all moving machinery parts should be made at least once during each operating shift.

2. structural parts and castings, all permanent non-moving connections should be inspected at regular intervals.

3. Keep all bolts tight and free from oil or grease.

4. Keep the machine clean and painted.

5. Motors, generators and other electrical equipment should be cleaned frequently.

6. On crawler machines, it is best to dig with crawler belts tight on the bottom.

7. Never exceed the allowable loads and/or conditions stated on the capacity plate. Constantly check for uneven or soft ground, or changing loads and radii.

8. Check grounding of machine frequently. Contact resistance of each ground should never exceed 25 ohms.

9. Never attempt to inspect the collector rings unless the trail cable is disconnected from the power line. An open oil switch is not sufficient protection as there is the possibility that dirt or water in the oil might cause sufficient leakage to result in a dangerously high voltage. 2
