Introduction

This manual provides information on the use, setting
and servicing of the CLAAS Drum Mower.
The advice on the care and servicing should be followed
in order to obtain maximum performance and long
service.
The assembly and the regular inspection of your
machine should be performed by your specialist workshop.
Neglect in maintenance and service and incorrect
use will result in poor machine efficiency and loss of
valuable time.
By correct operation and servicing you can make full
use of the technical knowledge and experience with
which your machine has been designed.

The instructions contained in this manual should be
read carefully and observed by all persons concerned
with the operation, maintenance and inspection of this
machine in order to prevent accidents.
Especially the SAFETY RULES and the PRIOR TO
OPERATION sections should be read with the utmost

equipment which are not originally manufactured or not
checked and approved by CLAAS, can change the
specified design characteristics of the CLAAS machine

possible adverse effect on the active and/or passive

an indication only. CLAAS reserve the right to make

LEGAL REGULATIONS FOR DRIVING ON PUBLIC
HIGHWAYS
General operating permit (ABE)
The operating permit of the self-propelled forage harvester
becomes void due to fitting the “CORTO 8100 F”
mower. Because of this, another operating permit for
the self-propelled forage harvester must be applied for
from the administrative centre (registration centre)
whilst submitting a new certificate regarding the proper
condition of the self propelled chaff harvester.
In order to facilitate the acceptance, CLAAS will place
a sample certificate at your disposal upon request if the
chaff harvester type, the serial number and the year of
construction are stated.
Illumination / Headlamps
When driving on public highways, the headlamps are
partially obscured so that duplicate illumination on the
cabin is required.
The models 490 and 489 must be fitted with extra flashing
lights on the sides.
Required parts:
TYPE 490 and 489: -headlights VAR. 9569 (1x)
-flashing lights VAR. 4053 (1x)
TYPE 187 and 189: -headlights VAR. 6291 (1x)
Side lights / Warning signs
Analogue to the regulations, side lights and warning
signs must be mounted towards the front.
Parts required: 1 x variant 6292 warning sign and
guard strip.
Axial loads
To ensure safety on public highways, sufficient loading
of the rear axle must be ensured. The following additional
weights must be mounted:
TYPE 490 and 489:
If front tyres 800/65 R 32 and rear tyres 540/65 R 24
with water ballasting are fitted, 14 ballast weights à 111
kg must be installed.
TYPE 187 and 189:
For steering drive axle………………12 weights @ 90 kg
For normal steering axle …………..14 weights @ 90 kg
For normal steering axle and 500/60-22.5
tyres and water load ………………..12 weights @ 90 kg
The minimum tyre quality for the drive axle is 23/1-26
The tyre size 12.5/80-18 6 PR (at the rear) cannot be
used.
