Driving with axle loads in excess of 12 t:

  • If the truck crane is rigged in a different mode for on-road driving than as
described in the accompanying GMK 5100 operating instructions, then the truck
crane will always exceed the 12.0 t axle load in driving mode.
  • Driving modes with no more than 12.0 t axle loads are to be found in the accompanying
GMK 5100 operating instructions, chapter Driving the truck crane
    in section Driving mode tables.

H According to the Special Types General Order (STGO) in the UK, the following
stipulations apply for driving with more than 12.5 t axle loads:
– The STGO travel speeds and axle loads apply only for public roads in the
UK.
– The STGO travel speeds are allowed only up to tyre speed limits (see tag
at dashboard and the GMK 5100 operating instructions).
– Driving with axle loads higher than 12.0 t will increase the braking/stopping
distance. The braking performance of the crane shall be established
by the driver at the actual axel loads under normal operating conditions.
Special attention shall be payed to local conditions (e. g. road condition,
weather condition, …).
– Every attempt should be made to distribute the load evenly on all axles
were possible (see instruction manual).
– Axle loads in higher than 12.0 t will cause significantly more wear and tear
of components (e. g. brake linings, tyres, shafts, gearbox, engine, suspension,
…).
– The driver is responsible for taking into account the above points when
driving a crane with axle loadings exceeding 12.5 t per axle (as allowed
under the STGO Regulations).
