FOREWORD:

This book has been written to enable owners and operators to get the best possible service from
their crane. We appre- ciate that the people who use these instructions are not technicians so we
have avoided as far as possible the use of involved and highly technical terminology. If there is
any point which is not clear please let us know.

• At the same time, in order to keep the maintenance section as brief as possible, we have omitted
  certain elementary items on the assumption that servicing will be carried out by someone with
  average automobile experience. We have not included fully detailed instructions for the engine, as
  this is covered by the maker’s own instruction book
• Your crane is the product of years of highly specialised research and development. This experience
  has enabled us to design a machine that should give you years of efficient, reliable and trouble
  free service. However, no machine will withstand constant abuse and indefinite neglect; it is
  therefore in your own interest to follow the service and mainte- nance instructions which we have
  prepared. If you do so the machine will give you service second to none.
• The instructions given in this manual are applicable to the crane specification, as built at the
  time of despatch from Grove. Therefore any subsequent changes to this crane from the said date may
  not be reflected in this manual.
• Changes from the first printing of this manual that have been made in the text are marked by a
  vertical bar ( I ) on the margin of the page opposite the change.
• In the event some text is removed, and is not replaced with new or changed material, a deletion
  arrow is used where the text was deleted.
• In the event there is a change in an illustration, a hand with a pointing finger will be used to
  point out where the change occurred
• A CHANGE RECORD page is included as page iv herein. It is intended that the recipient of the
  changes keep this CHANGE RECORD updated as each change is received by him.
