• This manual is designed primarily for’ use Ьу motorcycle mechanics in а properly equipped shop, atthough it contains enough detail and basic information to make it useful to the motorcycle user who desires to carry out his own basic mc1intenance and repair work. Since а certain basic knowledge of mechanics, the proper use of tools, and workshop procedures must Ье understood in order to ccirry out maintenance and repair satisfactorily; the c1djustmeпts, maintenance, and repair should Ье carried out only Ьу qualified mechanics whenever the owner has insufficient experience, or hc1s doubts as to his aЬility to do the work, so that the motorcycle сап Ье opeп1ted safely.
• ln order to perform the work efficiently and to civoid costly mistakes, the mechanic should read the text, thorough1y famil!arizing himself with the procedures Ьefore starting work, and then do the work carefully in а clean area. Whenever special tools or e quipment is specified, makeshift tools or equipment should not Ье used.
• Precision measurements can on1y Ье made if the proper instruments are used, and the use of substitute tools may adversely affect safe operation of the motorcycle.
