PREFACE

• Idea for development of Grand Beetle The idea that is ever present is “Combining all technologies in a more compact size”. The function, performance, operability, comfort, maintenanciability, noise and vibration equivalent to those of the standard machine can be achieved while ensuring the stability of the machine.
• This series was achieved by continuously expending effort on the “Technology for producing more compact construction (the organic combination of basic technology, design, development and production technology).
• Also, the SR series designed to produce more compact construction provides maintenaciability and comfort equivalent to the conventional type under the catchphrase of “Freedom from Inconvenience”, and is equipped with valves corresponding to every Attachment in option.
• The technology for producing more compact construction which is evidenced by the actual results and past records successfully completing this Beetle series in mini-type, has been improved further, and as a result this Grand Beetle series has born.
• We are certain that it will create a “New Wind” as our catchphrase~ that will revolutionize the construction machinery field

DEVELOPMENT AND SALES OF FULL-SCALE REAR SMALL SLEWING EXCAVATOR 11GRAND BEETLE 235SR”

• We have completed the development of Full-Scale Rear Small Slewing Excavator “Grand Beetle 235SR” (bucket capacity : 0.8m3 • operating weight : 23,200kg) of with \and comfort equivalent to the standard machine. This machine while combining the stability during operation and working capacity not less than the standard machine is a full-scale rear small slewing excavator combining the narrow space in the 6-ton class and the in the 20-ton class by restraining the protruding length from the crawler edge in the rear and front sides to the minimum .when the upper structure is slewing.
• Now, the hydraulic excavator is roughly classified into three types, CD standard type, ® smallest slewing type and ® Rear Small Slewing type which is a newly provided category and was placed on the market several years ago, and respective type has feature of “High Stability during operation”, “High workability in narrow area” and “Both advantages are combined.” etc. respectively. The “Rear Small Slewing Type” while being of the same type as the “Small Slewing Type” differs from it, in that application and resale are limited, and it has superiorfeatures, such that various kinds of front attachment are possible that will be met with the approval by general users, leasing companies and rental companies, and it is regarded that this excavator may become a leading fashion in the future.
• In these circumstances, we have put “Model 70SR” in the 6-ton class in April, 1998, and “Model 115SR” in the 11-ton class and “Model 135SR” in the 13-ton class in August, 1998, on the market. Since both models are newly designed, not simply improvements of the existing models, on the basis of the concept of “Comfort Performance to be provided on a Small Slewing Excavator” and the coexistence of the comfort and the small slewing operation is highly estimated as a fullscale Rear Small Slewing Excavator in the business world. And the “Grand Beetle 235SR” in the 23-ton class which is put on the market this time has also been developed in the same concept.
• In developing the Grand Beetle Series, the latest development technology, the modular design, etc. is introduced, and in addition the integrated completion is improved in order to realize the highest cost performance in the life cycle of the excavators from the purchasing to resale in addition to the functional characteristics of the Rear Small Slewing Excavator. The Grand Beetle Series is completed in the manner described above

Leading Features of “Grand Beetle 235SR”

(1) Realization of workability in narrow area in the 6-ton class The protrusion of the upperstructure from the crawler edge on the rear side is the minimum in the class, 125mm, and the protrusion on the front side is the minimum in the class, 405mm. Therefore in slewing operation, the work on the front side can be carried out without paying extraattention to the rear. And the spread of working occupancy to 180 degrees is 3,520mm, and this machine achieves the working capacity in the 20-ton class in the working space in the 6-ton class, and consequently the terms of work is shortened.

(2) Stability and Working Capacity Higher Than Those of Standard Machine CD With application of undercarriage one class higher, and addition of counterweight, etc., the stability 10 % higher than that of standard machine is secured. Consequently the working capacity higher than that of standard machine is realized.

• The max. digging height is raised 1.6m higher than the conventional machine in addition to the workability in narrow space, it is especially useful for demolition work in narrow spaces.
•  With application of new auto-accel system, the return system of the engine speed reduced after turning it to the neutral position is changed from the rapid return to the return proportional to the lever stroke, and as a result the operability is further improved

(3) Comfort and Tranquillity in Operator’s Space Equivalent to Those of Standard Machine The newly designed cab in the medium size of which sufficient operator’s space , view field, and easiness to get on and off are secured in the same level as standard machine in spite of it being a Small Slewing Machine. The comfortability is improved with an auto air-con standardly equipped. For the cab floor, the liquid seal type viscous mount is used, and consequently the rigidity of the rear panel of the cab is increased and the vibration and noise in the cab is remarkably reduced in spite of the close distance from the engine

(4) Coping With the Change of Social Environment and Market Environment The approved value to the new low noise construction machinery of which the measurement standard of the noise is becoming severe is cleared. And the approved value in the regulation of exhaust gas to the construction machinery, which is obliged to the general works under the control of the Ministry of Construction (Japan) in 1997, is also satisfied.

(5) Maintainability Equivalent to the Standard Machine In spite of the Small Slewing Machine After looking over the layout of units around the engine again, the inspection, cleaning and replacement of each unit are made easier in spite of narrow space. In addition, the computer is used to monitor the conditions of each unit, and the necessary information is provided timely through the multidisplay

(6) Various Attachments Which Are Used to Expand Application The specification which meets with the application of dozer, telescopic arm, separate boom, and excavator also used as a crane “High Reach”, etc. can be selected, and consequently the advantage of the Rear Small Slewing is also achieved. The additional valve of the add-on type is installed, to make the installation of attachment of breaker (crusher), etc. easier
