FOREWORD

• Only through correct operation, maintenance, trouble shooting, and repairs,
  can the effective performance, prevention of breakdowns and a long useful life of a
  machine be sustained.
  The object of this “Shop Manual” is to furnish the information needed by the serviceman
  to perform his work well, by giving him the essential details precisely but in an easily
  understood format.
  In performing his work, the serviceman should study the pertinent section of this manual
  carefully, and work systematic ally and scientifically by following the outlined work sequence.
  This Shop Manual has been prepared with the above in mind, so that each basic part of t
  he ma chi ne is dealt with under the headings: “Structure and Function” , “Testing
  and Adjustments”, “Trouble shoot­ing”, ” Specifications” and “Disassembly and Assembly” .
  Also a section on General Technical Procedures is provided to furnish detail s on
  basic operations and procedures common to the serviceman’ s work on the different parts of t
  he ma chi ne.
• 1. General Instructions
  This section presents under one heading the basic information and procedures common to
  the sections on ” Disassembly and Assembly”, ” Test i ng and Adjustments”, “Trouble
  shooting”, and ” Remove l and Installation” . It is essential for the serviceman
  to thoroughly understand and know this sect io n till it becomes a part of h is common
  sense.
• 2. Structure and Function.
  This section gives a detailed explanation of the “Structure” with details and drawings
  of the “Constituent Parts” and “block” or “circuit” diagrams, arrang ed for the
  serviceman, but also usefu l as a textbook for training ser vic e personnel. However, in
  the latte r case Training Aids should be used to cover the basic theory not included in
  this mariual.
• 3. Testing and Adjustments.
  Procedur es of all the necessary “Tests” and ” Ad ju st ment s” are described with
  photograph s show ing the necessary measuring equipment and the loc at io n for mak i
  ng the me asurement s. This should aid the serviceman in his trouble shoot i ng, checking
  and adjusting work.
• 4. Trouble Shooting
  Typ ical common troubles are li sted and systemat ically descr i bed; with thei r
  causes and th e procedures for finding and diagnosing the sympto ms.
  As it is impossible to list a ll of the possi ble troubles, the serviceman
  should study the sect io ns covering the “Structure and Function” and “Testing and
  Adjustments” and apply t his knowledge to diagnose any non -li sted t ro ub les.
• 5. Specifications
  In this section, all standa rd dimensions and to lerances that are necessary to perform Testing
  and Ad ju st ments are presented; with d rawi ngs together with, app ropriate procedure s for
  disassemb­ ly and assemb l y, performing repai rs, or trouble shooting. However,
  basic di mens ions and tolerances, for repairs or rebai!ding, are li m it ed to those mach i
  ne parts mo st commonly worked on.
