FOREWORD:
This manual describes procedures for operation, handling, lubrication, maintenance,
checking, and adjustment. It will help the operator realize peak perf9rmance
through effective, economical and safe machine operation.
• Please read this manual carefully BEFORE operating the machine.
• Please continue studying this manual until proper operation is completely
reinforced into personal habit.
* Operation, inspection, and maintenance should be carefully carried out, and
the safety must be given the first priority. Safety precautions are indicated
with LL marks in this manual.

BREAKING IN YOUR NEW MACHINE
Although Komatsu machines are properly adjusted and inspected before
shipment, a new machine must be operated carefully during the first 100 hours*
or so.
If a new machine is operated unreasonably, its performance may deteriorate
and its life reduced.
So, it is necessary to keep in mind the following precautions:
• Warm up the engine by idling it for about 5 minutes after starting the engine
before starting the machine.
In winter, a somewhat prolonged warm-up period is required.
• Avoid heavy-duty operation and high-speed running of the machine as far as
possible.
• Do not attempt to operate the machine with abrupt starting and acceleration,
or unnecessary hard-braking or sharp turning.
• Drain and refill all oil and replace the hydraulic oil filter elements after the first
250 hours*. (See EVERY 250 HOURS SERVICE and EVERY 1000 HOURS
SERVICE in this manual.)
