To remove the cylinder head. first drain cooling system. disconnect batteries and remove hood and side : panels. Disconnect turbocharger oil . lines. air cleaner and inlet manifold ‘ hoses, unbolt and remove inlet manifold. ‘ Unbolt and remove exhaust manifold : and turbocharger as a unit. Remove , fuel injector pressure lines as an as- ; sembly. Remove fuel leak off pipe and . all injector nozzles. Injector nozzles – protrude from bottom of cylinder head and may be damaged if allowed to remain in head.

• Disconnect upper and lower coolant hoses and temperature indicator sending unit from water pump body. Unbolt and remove the fan blades. Disconnect belt tightener arm from water pump body and remove fan belt from water pump pulley.
• Remove breather pipe, rocker arm top cover. rocker arms and push rods: then re- move rocker arm lower cover. Remove the cylinder head stud nuts, lift the head until clear of top of studs. then move head rearward until fan pulley is clear of radiator shroud.
• The cylinder head can be resurfaced. providing the injector nozzle protrusion does not exceed 0.224 inch (5.69mm). Original thickness of cylinder head is 3.2353265 inches (82.17-82.93mm) and normally surfacing of less than 0.012 inch (0.3mm) will be possible. After resurfacing cylinder head, it will be necessary to reseat valves to correct depth .
