• The Ford Series 6000 Tractor has a constant pressure hydraulic system with closed-center valving. A low volume, constant displacement pump, an accumulator, and an unload (bypass) valve, supply oil to closed-center control valves under constant pressure.
• The operation of closed-center valves can be compared to the operation of water faucets. The closed»center hydraulic valves hold oil under pressure in the system until manual move- ment of a control valve Iever.
• This manual opening of the valves directs oil at system pressure to operate bralre, litt, and/ or remote control cylinders. The tractor hydraulic system consists of the following assernblies, illustrated schematically in Figure 1: . Reservoir and return line filter . Axial-piston hydraulic pump .
• Unload (bypass reliei) valve . Accurnulator with free floating piston (reserve dry nitrogen gas battle is standard on models with hy- draulic litt; dealer installed option for utility models equipped with remote control valve and large control cylinders).
• Brake valve and individual brake cylinders Factory-installed options, connected in parallel with the breite lines in the standard hydraulic circuit: a. hydraulic litt b. remote control valve. The hydraulic power assist steering system is also illustrated in Figure 1.
• It is included in that illustration because it receives oil from, and retums oil to, the hydraulic system reservoir and filter assembly. Refer to Section 3, “Steering and Front Axle” for further details. The operating principles of each of the hydraulic system assemblies are explained in the following para- graphs. A. Reservoir Assembly The 3.5 gallon hydraulic reservoir assembly is located in the cavity behind the front hoocl casting, Figure 2.
• Air baffles (not shown) euclose the reservoit, filter, and accumulator assemblies within the cavity. The air baffles prevent the entry of material which could plug the radiator. Ford M-2C-41 Hydrauäic Oil is supplied through separate tubes from the reservoir to thehydraulic system pump and to the power steering pump. Roter to Figure 1. Oil from the hydraulic and steering systems enters the same return tube to the reservoir.
• That tube directs oil through the return line oil filter, thence into the reservoir’ below the surface of the oil. The reservoir is vented to atmosphere by a filler cap ‘assembly. The filler cap contains a filter screen to keep particles from entering the reservoir when the reservoir “breathes” during changes in the oil level.
• The filler cap and screen should be theroughly rinsed in solvent every 600 hours of operation (more fre quently in extremely dusty or chaffy operating conditions).
