• This Workshop Manual has been compiled for use in conjunction with normal workshop practice. Mention of certain accepted practices, therefore. has been purposely omitted in order to avoid repetition.
• Reference to renewing joints and cleaning olf joint faces. has not always been made as it is understood that this will be carried out where applicable.
• Similarly. it is understood that in re-assembiy and inspection. all parts are to be thoroughly cleaned, and burrs and scale are to be removed If necessary.
• All open ports oi high precision components. e.g. luel injection equipment. exposed by dismantling, should be blanked off until re—assembled, to prevent the ingress of dust and dirt.
• Throughout this manual. whenever “left” or “right” hand side of the engine ls referred to, it is that side ol the engine when viewed from the flywheel end.
• When entering into any correspondence or discussions concerning this engine. always quote the full engine number which is to be found stamped on a machined face in the middle of the right hand side of the cylinder block just below the camshaft tunnel.
