1. Place differential assembly in carrier 5 and install differential bearing cups, adjusters and caps. Install and tighten (finger tight) differential bearing capscrews. Tighten adjusters to correctly seat differential bearings.
2. Select the differential bearing adjuster located on the same side as the ring gear and drive pinion. Loosen this adjuster until the first thread is exposed.
3. Tighten opposite bearing adjuster until there is zero backlash between ring gear and drive pinion. Tightening this adjuster moves the ring gear towards the drive pinion.
4. Rotate the ring gear checking backlash clearance at various tooth sections. This procedure will determine any run—out or binding that may exist. It will also permit pro- 1 per seating of the bearings. If a run-out 5 condition exists, the backlash must be adjusted from this point.
5. Loosen adjuster (same adjuster as Step 3) one notch. Tighten opposite adjuster until bearing cup is contacted. Seat the cup by tightening and loosening the adjuster against the cup within a.range of two notches.
