IV. INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHOPPING
1. General
1) Ensure chopper is running at full working speed (pto speed 540 rpm) before entering the crop. This speed must be maintained during work.
2) Always be sure the cut-off discs are rotating just clear of each other. Only work with sharp chopping knives. 3) If a trailer is being towed behind the chopper care should be taken when turning to the right to avoid damage to the machine.
4) If ground conditions are bad, i.e. very wet soils or loose dry sand, it is advisable to reduce the pressure on the support wheel by carrying the machine on the tractor hydraulics.
5) Leave a long stem in order to prevent:
a) damage to the machine from stones,
b) unnecessary wear of knives and discs, caused by sand abrasion.
2. Chute operation
The chute is operated by means of a control cable. When in the working position the control unit is in a bracket (see spare parts list page ‘H’) which has to be fitted to the mudguard of the tractor.
