AVOIDING ACCIDENTS
Most accidents and inJuries that occur in workshops are caused by the failure to observe some simple basic rules of care and safety. Forth is reasons in the majority of cases they can be avoided: it is sufficient to foresee the possible causes and then act with the necessary caution and care. It is impossible with any type of machine, no matter how well designed and built, to defhitely exclude every possibility of accident. An alert, cautious mechanic is the best guarantee against accident. The strd observance of Just one basic safety rule would be enough to avoid many serious accidents.
- SAFETY RULES
General
Follow the maintenance and repair procedures carefully.
Do not carry out any cleaning, lubrication or maintenance with the engine running or the battery connected, except in cases
where it is specified. - Never wear rings, wrist watches, jewellery, loose or dangling items of clothing such as ties, torn clothing, scarves, unbuttoned Jackets or overalls with open zip fasteners that could get caught up in the moving parts. Approved safety clothing s recommended such as, helmets, anti-s!ip shoes, gloves, safety goggles, Never carry out any service operation on the machine with anyone sitting in the seat, unless the operator is fully trained and involved in the operation to be carried out.
- Never start the macnine or use its attachments from any position other than the operator’s seat. Stop the engine and make sure that there is no pressure in the hydraulic circuits before removing plugs and covers. See the instructions provided for this purpose in this manual. A.II service operations should be carried out with the maximum care and attention. The design of the service steps and platforms used in the workshop or on site should comply with current accident prevention regulations.
- Label all the controls to show that a service task is in progress. Chock the machine and any equipment which has to be lifted. Do not smoke while checking or filling the fuel tank, hydraulic system oil tank or battery, since the fluids involved are flamnable. The brakes are deactivated when they are released manually for service operations. In these cases, special blocks or sinilar devices should be used to control the machine. Use only the prescribed attachment points when towing. Attach the connections carefully.
- Check that the pins and/or bolts provided are firmly secured prior to pulling. Never stand close to drawbars, ropes or chains that are working under load. To move a broken-down machine use a trailer or a low-platform truck, if available. To load or unload the machine from the means of transport, choose a level area providing a solid support to the trailer or truck wheels.
- Anchor the machine firmly to the truck or trailer loading platform and block the wheels. For the electric heaters, battery c1argers and similar equipment use only auxiliary power supply sources having an efficient earth connection to avoid poss ble electric shocks. If you need to raise or handle heavy parts, use the appropriate capacity hoists and similar apparatus, and make sure that 10 one is in the immediate vicinity.
- Never pour petrol or diesel fuel into wide open deep containers due to the risk of inflammable vapours and spillage. Never use petrol, diesel fuel or other inflammable fluids as cleaning agents.Instead, use non-inflammable, non-toxic commercial solvents. Starnpato
