GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The brake is a wet type disk brake housed in the final reduction gear and brake assembly, which consists of the gear housing and brake housing. The brake housing is installed to the end flange at each end of the axle housing with bolts. On each side of the disk plate are brake rings and end plates. When brake fluid is sent from the master cylinder to the brake piston installed in the brake housing, the brake rings, end plate, and disk plate are forced against the gear housing by the piston, and they are then locked up so that the axle shaft is in turn locked through the disk plate and disk hub, thereby braking the final reduction gear, wheel hub, and wheel.

The wet type disk brake has the following features:

• The disk plate (with facing on both sides) is oil-bathed to produce less facing wear and offer high durability.
• The disk plate, brake rings, end plate, and brake piston are all lodged in the gear and brake housing to create a positive braking force without being affected by water, mud, or dust.
• The disk plate requiring no clearance adjustment offers better serviceability.
• The oil-bathed disk plate causes less heat build-up. Positive braking force is assured even in repeated application at high speeds and heavy loads.
• Since the final reduction gear and brake assembly is installed on the end flange of the axle housing, the disk brake and final reduction gear are independently detachable.
• The wear condition of the disk plate can be visually observed by removing the four plugs on the brake housing (top and bottom, both sides).
