• In second speed the intermediate clutch is engaged allowing the inter- mediate Sprag to hold the sun gear against counterclockwise rotation. Turbine turning effort through the forward clutch is now directed through the main shaft to the rear internal gear in a clockwise direction.
• Clockwise rotation of the rear internal gear rotates the rear pinions clockwise against the stationary sun gear. This causes the output carrier and output shaft to rotate clockwise at a reduction ratio of l. 4815 to 1. E In second speed, overrun braking is provided by the front band as it holds the sun gear stationary. Without the band engaged, the sun gear would overrun the intermediate sprag.
