- Perform safe daily walk-around and pre-start inspections following the exact sequence in Section 5.
- Set up the drill on leveling jacks, raise and pin the tower, and verify the overpressure control system before starting the hole.
- Handle drill pipe correctly through the four-pipe carousel, load and unload the string, and change tricone bits or DTH hammers with the proper tooling.
- Adjust engine throttle, compressor HI/LO pressure selection, pulldown force, holdback pressure, and rotation speed from the operator’s console.
- Diagnose engine faults through CAT C15 diagnostic and event codes, and through the MurphyLink PowerView menu system.
- Service the compressor – oil strainer, oil filter, separator element, receiver tank, blowdown valve, and pneumatic regulation system.
- Change hydraulic oil, return filters, drain filter, rotary head oil, pump drive gearbox oil, track planetary gearbox oil, and carousel gearbox oil at the correct intervals.
- Torque fasteners to the correct SAE Grade 5 or Grade 8 value in ft/lbs or Nm.
- Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, dust collector, and Centro-Matic lubrication problems using the operator-observed problems tables.
- Select and install Dixon Boss clamps correctly, using the hose O.D. measuring procedure and torque charts.
For a machine of this class – roughly 70,000 lb operating weight, 30,000 lb bit load, up to 149 ft multi-pass depth, and either a 900 CFM @ 350 psi HP compressor or a 1050 CFM @ 110 psi LP compressor – working from the correct Atlas Copco DM30 II procedures is what separates a properly maintained rig from a costly failure. The Rev 002 manual is the version that updated the 14-spool valve illustrations, added the carousel lock plate maintenance instruction, corrected the oil flow and feed/rotation circuit illustrations, and introduced the Safety Alert: Securing Hoses subsection.
Who This Manual Is For
Blasthole drill operators running the DM30 II in mining and quarry production, mine-site maintenance technicians responsible for scheduled servicing, hydraulic and electrical specialists troubleshooting system faults, and fleet managers who keep the paper trail for a machine’s service history. It also serves training environments where new operators need the same reference the field uses.
