Intended Use and Foreseeable Misuse
The manual opens by defining exactly what the 3012 PLUS dumper is built to do – transport, distribute and unload excavation material and other bulk material – and what it must never be asked to do. Maximum payload is stated for construction site work (12,000 kg) and for travel on public roads (8,800 kg), the permissible travel speed with load is capped at 40 km/h, and the machine is declared stable on inclines up to 20% in both axial and travel direction. The misuse section lists the operator habits that Bergmann explicitly forbids: carrying passengers in the trough, loading by volume instead of weight, using the tipped trough as a dozer blade, towing another vehicle with the trough, and jumping in or out of the seat without the lap belt fastened.
Safety
This is the largest chapter in the book and is the reason most buyers pick up a Bergmann dumper operating manual in the first place. It covers safety signs and symbols, emergency actions, general safety instructions, danger area and safety distance, machine stability, working near underground pipelines and cables, and working near overhead power lines – complete with the safety distance table (1.0 m up to 1000 V, 3.0 m from 1 kV to 110 kV, 4.0 m from 110 kV to 220 kV, 5.0 m from 220 kV to 380 kV and 5.0 m when the rated voltage is unknown). Later sections deal with vehicle inspection before start-up, operation in enclosed spaces, use of lifting gear, vibration exposure, defects and damage, driving on public roads, starting the engine, refuelling, travel speed and brake power, exiting the cab, loading and unloading, operating personnel requirements, multi-shift operation, contaminated areas, electric power and residual energy, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, permitted and prohibited modifications, valves and hydraulic hoses, and fire. Two practical sections stand out: switching off the battery main switch, and setting the dumper to a safe state by pushing the joystick down and engaging the parking brake.
Securing and Supporting the Machine
There are dedicated procedures for securing a lifted trough with the trough support, for securing the dumper against rolling away using the wheel chocks, for the transport safety device that locks the centre pivot, and for transporting and towing the dumper. The trailer section states the rules for pulling a trailer with the standard rear coupling: maximum trailer load 500 kg, maximum drawbar load 100 kg, level ground or slopes no steeper than 10%, and a load equal to about 25% of maximum payload in the trough to improve traction.
Technical Data
Full data tables for the power aggregate, axles, steering system, working hydraulics, weights and noise emission. The 3012 PLUS is listed with a Cummins QSB 3.3 diesel engine rated 63 kW at 2600 rpm, four cylinders in-line, 4500 cm3 displacement, water cooling and a dry-air filter. Fuel tank capacity is given as 190 litres. The 12 V electrical system uses a 110 Ah battery, a 60 A alternator and a 3.0 kW starter. Six forward travel modes are tabulated, from 0-6 km/h up to 0-40 km/h, with three reverse speeds up to a maximum of 14 km/h. Tyre data is provided for 20.5 R 25 diagonal tyres at 2.50 bar front and 4.75 bar rear, and the working hydraulic system is quoted at 230 bar operating pressure with a 120 litre hydraulic tank.
Approvals, Certificates and Dimensions
The approvals chapter records CE testing to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, EC type approval for noise, and the optional TUV approval with vehicle certificate for driving on public roads. Dimension data covers overall length 7390 mm, overall height with A/C system 3120 mm, overall width 2450 mm, axle base 3740 mm and track width 1930 mm, plus dumping heights and ground clearance. A dedicated page illustrates the admissible slope limits of 20% in travel direction and 20% in axial direction.
Description of the Machine
Chapter 8 explains how the Bergmann 3012 PLUS dumper is actually built: the torsion-proof welded front and rear frames joined by a centre pivot and steering cylinder, the rigid rear axle and self-aligning flat-spring front axle, the hydro-mechanical torque converter with downstream multi-speed powershift transmission and integrated transfer box, the brake system (encapsulated maintenance-free multi-disc service brake acting on both axles, spring-applied secondary and parking brake acting via the cardan shaft), the working and steering hydraulics with load-sensing control, and the electrical system. The joystick diagram in this chapter shows exactly which cylinder movement is triggered by each direction of travel.
Operator Stand, Cab and Dashboard
Access to the operator stand, the cab layout, the steering column switch and joystick functions, the switches on the side console, and the dashboard with its rev counter, speedometer, display screens and warning indicators. Switch functions are itemised: light, mirror heating, ignition, mirror adjustment, hazard warning, front and rear working lights, beacon, trough lock, automatic/manual gear shifting, windscreen wiper, heating fan speed, heating temperature, cigarette lighter, parking brake, cruise control and axle activation. The dash display screens cover particle filter regeneration, neutral gear, clock, general warning, exhaust temperature, operating hours and date, plus warning and error messages with SPN codes and next-service information. Driver seat adjustment, the lap belt and the seat’s thirteen adjustment features are also documented.
Start-Up, Travel and Shutdown
Pre-start checks for engine oil, fuel level, hydraulic fluid, tyre pressure, electrical system, brake fluid and coolant, followed by the numbered start-up sequence for the diesel engine, warm-up of the hydraulic system in cold weather, and shutdown procedure. Travel operation covers preparing the dumper for travel, selecting a travel mode, using the travel direction switch, brake pedal and parking brake. Refuelling instructions and the working-with-the-machine notes round out the chapter.
Transport, Recovery and Crane Lifting
Rules for driving the 3012 PLUS on public roads, transporting it by low-loader or rail, locking the centre pivot for transport, and the correct sling points for lifting by crane. There is a full recovery and towing section: general towing rules, towing restrictions, mechanical release of the parking brake on the gearbox, and the emergency procedure for manually lowering the trough if the hydraulics fail. Crane lifting is restricted to an empty, unarticulated machine using a four-leg chain or cable with a traverse, a minimum load capacity of 20,000 kg, and the marked sling points on the front and rear frame – never the ROPS structure or the trough eyes.
Accessories
A short closing chapter illustrating the optional beacon installation on the cab.
Why This Bergmann 3012 PLUS Operating Manual Belongs in the Cab
The 3012 PLUS is a 12-tonne payload articulated dumper with a swivel tipping trough that turns 90 degrees to either side, a 40 km/h hydrostatic travel drive and a Cummins QSB 3.3 under the bonnet. It is a machine where the wrong habit – travelling with the trough raised, tipping sideways on soft ground, towing a trailer up a slope steeper than 10%, or releasing the parking brake with the machine on an incline – can cost the operator far more than the manual ever will. The procedures and limit values in this book exist for a reason, and they are laid out in plain language with the diagrams and warning labels reproduced as they appear on the machine.
This PDF is not a marketing brochure or a fold-out quick-start card. It is the operating manual itself: 131 pages, chapter-numbered, with the safety signs, the dashboard displays, the joystick functions, the maintenance and repair rules and the transport and recovery procedures all present in one file. Workshop technicians will find the brake, hydraulic and drivetrain descriptions useful for diagnosis; operators will find the start-up, travel and shutdown sequences useful every shift; site supervisors will find the safety and misuse sections useful for tool-box talks and inductions.
