- The cylinders are supplied through the housing entrance valve, only if the supply pressure is enough to open the pumping elements delivering valve kit, about 2 bars (29 psi.).
- The fuel amount that supply the high pressure pump is dosed by the high pressure regulator. The high pressure regulator is controlled by the EDC7UC31 control unit through the PWM signal (Pulse width modulated).
- When the fuel is sent to a pumping element, the corresponding piston is displaced down (suction course). When this course is inverted, the intake valve closes and the fuel in the pumping element chamber is compressed in the common rail.
- The generated pressure open the exit valve and the coressed fuel reaches the high pressure circuit.
- The pumping element compress the fuel until reaches the TDC (Top dead center).
- Then, the pressure decreases until the exit valve closes.
- The pumping element piston returns to the BDC (Botton dead center) and the remaining fuel is uncompressed.
- When the pressure in the pumping element chamber stays lower than the supply pressure, the intake valve opens again and the cycle repeats.
- The common rail delivering pressure is modulated between 250 and 1600 bars (3625 and 23206 psi.) by the EDC7UC31 control unit, through the pressure regulator solenoid valve. The pump is lubricaed and cooled by the fuel.
- The time spent to replace the pump in the engine is reduced compared to traditional injection pumps because do not requires syncronism.
