CASE IH TRACTOR HYDRAULICS TROUBLE SHOOT & TEST PROCED & SPEC SERVICE MANUAL – PDF DOWNLOAD:

IMAGES PREVIEW OF THE MANUAL:

DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this manual is to provide the serviceman with one ready reference source for three basic types of information necessary to properly analyze and correct problems encountered in servicing most International Harvester farm and industrial hydraulic applications. You will find in this manual:

1. Trouble Shooting Chart: This chart is located inside the back cover. It pre- sents a logical manner to check and determine the probable causes of malfunction in a hydraulic system. Its use will be governed by symptoms evident in the operation of the hydraulically equipped unit.

2. Test Procedure: An explanation of the FESSI 1H Flo Rater and methods of using it to furnish information relative to the operation of components of any hydrauolic system. Proper interpretation of this information in conjunction with the Trouble Shooting Chart will enable the servicemen to more accurately and speedily diagnose and correct malfunctions in a system in the most economical way for the owner.

3. Specifications: Measurements of components and specified clearances required to properly rebuild hydraulic pumps and valves are given in chart form. This section also lists the specifications that may be a determining factor in deciding whether to replace or re-use components of these units. These specifications will be of assistance while inspecting valves and pumps that test procedures have determined to be faulty in operation. Proper use of the information contained in this manual requires that the service- man be thoroughly familiar with the basic hydraulic principles described in Blue Ribboa Service Manual GSS-1277.

The application of these basic principles to International Harvester equipment as out- lined in Blue Ribbon Service Manuals GSS-lZ’IB, 055-1279, and 655-1284 must also be completely understood. All that this manual can do for the servicemen is to provide him with three more tools to perform his job. Use of these tools (Trouble Shooting Chart, Test Procedure, and Specifications Chart) should not be at- tempted without this basic knowledge.

  • To do so can result in excessive lost time through rework, and in excessive expense to the customer or dealer before the problem is corrected. TROUBLESHOOTING The servicing of any unit which presents a problem should be approached in an or- derly manner.
  • Determine the answers to the following questions before proceeding further. I. What is the problem? What does the operator say is unsatisfactory about the operation of the unit? Is it failure to lift, for example? Is it settling of the load? Abnormal noise? Jerky operation? Excessive heat? Frequently the complaint received is merely “The hydraulic system doesn’t work. “
  • If at all possible, observe the operation of the unit by the regular op- erator. You may find bad operating procedure, even destructive abuse of the maeration in this way, operate it yourself to verify the problem. 2. What external factors are present that may affect the satisfactory operation of the system? In the case of machines such as loaders, is the operator attempting to do more than the rated capacity of the machine permits? Are there mechani- cal causes for the problem? Is there any binding in linkages due to poor lubrication?
  • Are any hinge pins or pivots rusted or damaged so that complete movement is not possible? Are there any machine members bent, broken, worn, or adjusted too tightly or in such a manner as to limit free movement? Make a complete visual check of the hydraulic system and machine. chine. If you can’t observe the usual op- Jo determine these factors; also check for any external hydraulic fluid leaks that may be present.
  • After you have defined the problem and its existence to your own satisfaction, and either ruled out or corrected external or mechanical causes, you are in a position to choose the best method or methods for further diagnosis. Use the trouble shooting chart which follows. Apparent problems are shown in column headings. Usual causes are given in the left hand margin and corrective measures in the right hand margin. Num- bers in the columns under each problem indicate the sequence in which possible causes should be checked.
  • The sequence is based on ease of checking and probability of occurrence. Since many problems arise from more than one cause, no disassembly of hydrau- lic units should be made until all probable causes have been checked. Corrective measures should be taken for external . causes such as low fluid level, mechanical binds, damage, etc. as the check progresses.
  • If the visual or mechanical checks and corrections do not completely eliminate the problem, then a complete IH Flo Rater test is indicated to determine the units requiring adjustment or disassembly and inspection.
