INTRODUCTION:
MANUAL PURPOSE AND CONTENT:
This manual has been developed to instruct mining personnel in the care, maintenance and operation of a Model 2S70-W dragline. Every effort has been made to make this manual as complete as possible at· the time of printing. However, Bucyrus-Erie Company reserves the right to continually improve its products.
- Therefore, alterations to the equipment may not be reflected in the current manual. When alterations take place that affect manual substance, Bucyrus-Erie Company will make every attempt to update and distribute service information as soon as possible. The present manual is divided into four major sections. Pages are numbered within each particular section.
- For example, page 2-4 is the fourth page of Section 2. Each section is prefaced with a table of contents which is found on the first page of the section. With the exception of Section 4, each section is generously illustrated to support and clarify text coverage of the equipment and service procedures.
This area of the manual relates to operation of the dragline and presents major topics of safety, pre ventive maintenance checks, operating controls, operation, and operating hints.
SAFETY GENERAL:
Safe operation of power draglines helps to prevent injuries to mining employees and minimizes delays and costly damage to equipment. Often the same unsafe practices and hazardous conditions that cause injuries also result in operating delays and expensive repairs. Injuries to personnel and damage to equipment may arise from a variety of causes. Carefully study all recommended procedures in this manual so that unsafe conditions can be recognized and avoided whenever possible. Safety guidelines are intended to help prevent accidents from occurring and are provided in the interest of all personnel. Overall safety depends upon a good sense of judgement and alertness from the entire mining crew.
The following is a collection of important safety rules relative to the pre-start and operation of a dragline. The rules set forth herein encompass a variety of precautions.
