1. OUTLINE

The opening chapter frames the entire SK125SR, SK135SR-2, and SK135SRLC-2 range, presenting a detailed comparison between the new and former models. It covers the major layout changes — control valve, solenoid block, multi control valve, fuel tank, washer tank, and battery — plus upgrades to the track frame, travel motor drain piping, lower roller shaft, shoe link assembly, slewing bearing, arm structure, greasing points, bucket capacity, and hydraulic piping. The chapter explains what changed and why, which is especially useful for technicians moving from older Kobelco machines.

2. CONSTRUCTION & FUNCTION

This is the largest and most operationally detailed chapter in the training text. It opens with component naming and specifications for the SK125SR, SK135SR-2, and SK135SRLC-2, then covers the operator cab layout with switch and meter locations, the gauge cluster, and the full mechatronic control system summary. From there it walks through the hydraulic system in detail: unload valve control, positive control and P-Q control, boom-up conflux, arm-in recirculation and conflux, arm-in anti-cavitation, arm-out conflux, bucket digging (dump) control, swing priority, travel straight control, pressure release (draining) control, N&B switch control, nibbler conflux control, and the N&B solenoid relief valve.

Hydraulic components get their own treatment: pump and regulator specifications and control curves, pilot valve outside views and performance characteristics, control valve port layout and specifications, swing motor and reduction unit construction, travel motor construction, swivel joint, cylinder specifications, radiator and oil cooler, and the multi control valve removal and installation procedure. Electrical equipment and harness layout, plus the air-conditioner system, complete the chapter.

3. MECHATRO CONTROL SYSTEM

The mechatronic chapter is the electronic counterpart to the hydraulic section. It covers adjustment of the mechatro controller — the A-B-C adjustment for pump and unloading valve — multi display operation, self-diagnosis display, service diagnosis display function, trouble history diagnosis, trouble diagnosis mode, maintenance schedule setting, display adjustment, mechatro control equipment, and electrical equipment. The connector pinout tables for the mechatro controller (C-1) and gauge cluster (C-2), the relay and fuse box layout, high and low pressure sensor specifications, and the diagnostic flowchart give technicians the tools to isolate electrical and electronic faults without guesswork.

4. ENGINE

Engine coverage centers on the Mitsubishi D04FR-74kW four-cylinder common rail diesel. The chapter documents engine specifications, outside view, mounting, system flow diagrams for fuel, lubrication, cooling, inlet and exhaust, and electrical systems, engine serial number location, removal of the fuel system, the common rail fuel injection system and its components, high pressure pump assembly, installing the lubrication system, removing inlet and exhaust systems, removing electrical components, troubleshooting by diagnosis codes, scan tester operation, diagnosis code cross-reference, and sensor inspection procedures. This is where the electronic engine control story connects to the machine-level diagnostics in chapter 3.

5. MACHINE STRUCTURE

Machine structure covers the boom, arm, bucket, and lower parts with dimensional drawings and maintenance standards. It includes pin and bushing clearance specifications, thrust clearances, bucket lug and boss dimensions, crawler construction and maintenance standards, upper and lower roller assemblies, idler assembly, idler adjuster, sprocket maintenance standards, and the removal and installation procedures for major upper frame assemblies: operator seat, cab, battery, guard, and fuel tank. Component weights for the SK125SR, SK135SR-2, and SK135SRLC-2 are tabulated for planning lifts and transport.

6. CHECK-UP & SERVICE

The check-up and service chapter is the practical maintenance companion. It covers daily inspection, engine oil and coolant checks, fuel level and filter drain procedures, hydraulic oil level checking, belt tension adjustment, lubricant and fuel specifications, maintenance parts tables, biodegradable oil guidance, required tools, the full inspection and maintenance chart with interval columns from 8 hours through 5,000 hours, and performance inspection standard tables for the SK125SR, SK135SR-2, and SK135SRLC-2.

7. DATA 1 & 8. DATA 2 (CIRCUIT DIAGRAM)

The data chapters supply the working ranges for backhoe and face shovel attachments, plus the circuit diagrams that tie everything together. This includes the mechatronic control system summary, standard hydraulic circuit diagram, N&B specification hydraulic circuit (option), electric circuit diagram, and the electrical equipment list.

What This Training Text Covers That Generic Manuals Miss

The mechatronic control system is the defining feature of the SK125SR, SK135SR-2, and SK135SRLC-2. The training text treats it as a system — how the low pressure sensors feed the mechatro controller, how the controller commands the pump proportional valves and unload valves, and how the hydraulic and electrical systems interact during boom-up conflux, arm-in recirculation, swing priority, and travel straight. The diagnostic modes (service diagnosis, trouble history, trouble diagnosis mode 1 and 2) are laid out with the actual screen flow and expected values, not just a list of codes.

The hydraulic circuit diagrams show the mechatronic command overlays, so you can trace a signal from the pilot valve through the low pressure sensor, into the mechatro controller, out to the proportional valve, and through the control valve spool. That level of integration is what makes this training text different from a standard service manual that treats the hydraulic and electrical systems separately.

Coverage & Compatibility

This training text applies to the Kobelco SK125SR, SK135SR-2, and SK135SRLC-2 hydraulic excavators with serial numbers starting from YV05-04501 (SK125SR), YY05-12001 (SK135SR-2), and YH05-07001 (SK135SRLC-2). It is written for the Mitsubishi D04FR-74kW common rail diesel engine and covers the machine as built for the Oceania and Southeast Asia specifications, including the N&B (nibbler and breaker) option circuit.

Who This Manual Is For

Field service technicians, shop mechanics, maintenance planners, and owners who need to understand not just what to repair but how the machine thinks. If you are diagnosing a mechatronic fault code, adjusting the pump after replacement, setting maintenance intervals, or planning a major component removal, the procedures and specifications here are the ones the machine was designed around.
