Description

MacGREGOR GL6019/5521/5023/4526-2 Hydraulic Deck Crane Manual

This is the complete MacGREGOR instruction, operation, maintenance and service manual for the GL-2 and GL-3 series hydraulic deck cranes, issued under Project No. 2/0709102LMW and valid for crane serial numbers 62508550 and 62508551. It covers the GL6019, GL5521, GL5023 and GL4526-2 crane variants, documenting every system on board โ€” from the hoisting, luffing and slewing circuits to the CC3000 electronic crane control system, the electrical safety functions and the complete spare-parts breakdowns. If you operate, maintain or repair one of these MacGREGOR hydraulic deck cranes, this manual is the technical reference the crane was built around.

Chapters Covered

  • 1 โ€” General
  • 2 โ€” Technical Description
  • 3 โ€” Function
  • 4 โ€” Operation
  • 5 โ€” Maintenance
  • 6 โ€” Service
  • 7 โ€” Extra Equipment
  • 9 โ€” Spare Parts

Chapter 1 โ€” General

Safety instructions for the GL-2 and GL-3 cranes, the full risk-classification system (danger, warning, caution and notice signs), the general cleanliness rules for working on hydraulic systems, conversion factors, and the complete library of hydraulic and electrical symbols used throughout the schematic diagrams. This is the chapter that tells you what every symbol on a circuit drawing actually represents before you start tracing a fault.

Chapter 2 โ€” Technical Description

The crane specification tables and the design description of the GL-2 and GL-3 cranes. Hoisting capacities, jib outreach limits, hoisting and luffing speeds, slewing speeds, main electric motor ratings, feed pump and control circuit data, gearbox ratio, hydraulic pump and motor displacements, wire rope sizes and oil capacities. Also includes the illustrated cutaway of the crane showing the main electric motor, pump unit, hoisting and luffing winches, slewing gear, jib, operatorโ€™s cabin and oil tank in their actual positions.

Chapter 3 โ€” Function

How the hydraulic and electrical systems actually work. The hoisting, luffing and slewing circuits are broken down valve by valve, with brake-release logic, high-speed/low-speed shifting, overload response and safety cut-offs. The crane control system CC3000 is covered in full โ€” MC and CC cards, joystick inputs, parameter memory, error diagnostics and the CAN/RS485 communication layout. Electrical start/stop sequences and the thermostatic ventilation fan are also explained.

Chapter 4 โ€” Operation

Crew checklists, the operating instruction, remote control box operation (radio and cable), the start-stop procedure, MachHeavyVisor display, in-cabin controls and indicators, emergency escape procedures using the escape line or rope ladder, parking and sea stowing, and handling hatches by deck crane. This is the chapter a crane operator is expected to read before taking the crane into service.

Chapter 5 โ€” Maintenance

The full maintenance chart with daily, monthly, 200-hour, 500-hour, 1000-hour, 2000-hour and five-year intervals. Inspection of stressed components and structures, the lubricating chart and lubricating instructions, filter service and replacement, hydraulic oil tank procedures, oil sampling to verify cleanliness, and the recommended lubricants and greases for every part of the crane including the slewing gear, winches, wire ropes and jib bearing.

Chapter 6 โ€” Service

The largest chapter of the manual. Trouble-shooting charts for overheating, pumps, hydraulic motors and brakes; slewing gearset service and backlash setting; winch assembly and oil-change procedures; wire rope handling, replacement and inspection; sheave wear limits; hydraulic hose inspection and replacement intervals; hydraulic piston accumulator charging; tightening torques for studs, screws and hydraulic couplings; the service door procedure; slack wire switch function testing; limit switch adjustment; slip-ring unit removal and maintenance; and the complete CC3000 troubleshooting guide with error-code tables. Emergency lowering using a hand pump is also documented in full.

Chapter 7 โ€” Extra Equipment

MacHeavyvisor release 3.1 โ€” the logging and display program that runs on the crane cabin computer โ€” plus the CC Pilot XS display user manual covering installation, connectors, startup and fault finding.

Chapter 9 โ€” Spare Parts

Illustrated parts breakdowns (IPD) for the hoisting and luffing winches, slewing gear assemblies, hydraulic motors, pump unit, oil cooler, oil tank, crane house, jib, cab, lifting block, slewing bearing, hydraulic valves, filters, electrical components and extra equipment. Both an alphabetical and a numerical spare-part index are included, along with the recommended procedure and form for ordering parts from MacGREGOR.

Crane Systems and Circuits Documented

The manual covers all three of the craneโ€™s closed hydraulic work circuits in detail. The hoisting circuit uses two 125ย cmยณ/rev variable-displacement pumps driving two Vgย 160โ€“0ย cmยณ/rev hydraulic motors through a planetary gearbox. The luffing circuit uses a 125ย cmยณ/rev pump driving a 106.7ย cmยณ/rev motor. The slewing circuit uses a 125ย cmยณ/rev pump and three 56.1ย cmยณ/rev motors. Feed and control pressure are supplied by a separate 49.1ย cmยณ/rev screw pump submerged in the 560-litre oil tank. The main electric motor is rated 184ย kW continuous / 294ย kW at S6 15% duty on 440ย V / 60ย Hz, driving the pumps through a three-pump drive with a ratio of iย =ย 0.692.

Because this manual was written for the whole GL-2 and GL-3 family, the load-area chart shows the four lifting capacities that the four model numbers correspond to: 60ย t at 4โ€“19ย m outreach, 55ย t at 4โ€“21ย m, 50ย t at 4โ€“23ย m and 45ย t at 2.5โ€“26ย m. Hoisting is 15ย m/min in low speed and 25ย m/min in high speed, luffing takes approximately 22โ€“25ย seconds from maximum to minimum radius, and slewing runs at 0.7โ€“0.75ย rev/min. Wire rope sizes are 38ย mmย ร—ย 230ย m for the hoisting winch and 32ย mmย ร—ย 171ย m for the luffing winch, both non-rotating lang lay galvanised and oiled.

Who This Manual Is For

This MacGREGOR deck crane manual is written for the shipโ€™s crew, the responsible engineering officer, the shore-based service engineer and the workshop technician who keeps a GL-2 or GL-3 crane working. The operating chapters assume no formal engineering education โ€” they simply require the reader to work through the manual. The service and repair chapters, on the other hand, are aimed at qualified hydraulic, mechanical and electrical personnel who are familiar with the risks of high-pressure oil, live 440ย V equipment and heavy suspended loads.

It is equally useful as a reference for classification surveys, as a training aid for new crane operators, and as the documentation source when you need the correct part number for a valve, seal, hydraulic motor or sheave before placing a spares order.

Why This MacGREGOR GL-2 / GL-3 Manual Matters

Deck crane work is unforgiving. A mis-set pressure cut-off valve, a worn brake disc that has not been measured, a slack wire switch that has been bypassed, or a joystick that has not been recalibrated after an encoder change can all turn a routine lift into a dropped load. The GL6019 GL5521 GL5023 GL4526-2 service manual gives you the exact pressures, torque figures, clearance limits, oil grades, cam angles and error codes that MacGREGOR specifies for these cranes โ€” not generic advice from a similar machine.

Inside you will find everything needed to run diagnostics through the CC3000 card display, to trace a fault in the hoisting or luffing circuit using the hydraulic schematics, to replace a wire rope without losing the limit switch settings, to charge the piston accumulators, to set the slewing gear backlash, and to look up the correct part number from the illustrated spare-parts lists.
