About the Tornado Low Profile Mixer
The Tornado is built on a rigid tubular chassis designed for heavy labour, with an oscillating front differential axle that lets the machine lean up to plus or minus 7 degrees around its longitudinal axis and maintain traction across all four wheels on uneven ground. Power comes from a Deutz BF4M1013C four-cylinder water-cooled diesel rated at 146 HP with turbocharger and intercooler, driving through Rexroth variable flow piston pumps and hydraulic piston motors mounted directly on each differential axle. The drum holds up to 4 m3 of mass concrete and rotates hydraulically in both directions, driven by a Rexroth motor fed from a variable flow pump with electronic rpm regulation. A 200 litre water tank with hydraulically driven pump and washing hose completes the mixing package. Maximum speed is 19 km/h and the machine is rated for a 30% slope at full load. Overall width is 2.22 m, length 7.06 m and height 2.54 m, with a turning radius of 3.6 m interior and 6.8 m exterior.

Read together, the compilation follows the Tornado from the identification plate through to the individual O-ring. The operator’s manual explains the drum loading sequence, the mixing and transport regime, the correct procedure for reloading between pours, and the emergency methods for towing the machine and emptying the drum when the rotation circuit fails. The maintenance chapter carries fault-location tables for the hydraulic circuit and the engine, the approved fluid list, and the step-by-step hydraulic pressure regulation procedure for the brake, steering and water pump circuits, complete with the 160 bar, 110 bar and 70 bar settings and the tools required. The electrical chapter reproduces the general mixer wiring diagram along with the physical layout of the control panel, steering column and distribution boxes, so a circuit can be traced on the machine rather than guessed from a symbol key.
Safety and Operating Guidance
The safety chapters set out the dangerous work areas, the recommended personal protective equipment, and the rules for starting, driving, parking and servicing the machine. They cover the checks before entering the cab, the correct method of starting with the ignition switch, the precautions for descending slopes, and the restriction on carrying passengers. There is specific guidance on the pacemaker warning for anyone working on the ignition system, and on the handling of hot coolant and hot oil during servicing. The section on qualified personnel sets out the age, training and fitness requirements for operators, and the responsibility the operator carries for inspecting safety features before each shift. For a machine used underground or on confined sites, that material is as important as the repair data.
Beyond the machine itself, the appended catalogues give the exact part numbers needed to keep the Tornado running. The Deutz section covers oil grades and viscosities, fuel specification, coolant preparation, belt tensioning, valve clearance adjustment, maintenance schedules and the full component breakdown of the BF4M1013C. The axle and drum reducer lists break every assembly down to nuts, studs, bearings, seals and shims. The Rexroth datasheets supply the performance curves and dimensions of the transmission and drum drive components, which matters when a pump or motor has to be identified or replaced.
What This Manual Lets You Do
With this compilation a technician can identify the machine from its chassis and motor numbers, work through the loading, mixing and discharge cycle correctly, trace an electrical or hydraulic fault to a specific circuit, set the hydraulic pressures to the values the manufacturer specifies, and order the right part the first time from a genuine part number rather than a description. The fault tables cover rigid steering, unreliable steering, jamming steering, service brakes that fail to lock, and the common engine complaints — hard starting, excessive oil consumption, blue, white and black smoke — with a probable cause and a remedy against each one. The engine fault tables extend to tappets outside tolerance, leaks in the injection wiring, faulty injectors, air in the fuel system and dirty fuel filters, each with the check and the corrective action listed alongside.
Why the Correct Documentation Matters
The Tornado is a hydrostatic four-wheel-drive machine with a 4 m3 concrete drum, oscillating front axle, wet disc brakes and an electronically regulated drum rotation circuit. Pressure settings, fluid grades and clearances are all specified, and getting them wrong on a machine of this size is expensive. The manual states the approved hydraulic fluid, engine oil, axle oil, grease and drum reducer oil by name, and warns against mixing brands. It also records the valve clearances, injection pressures, oil capacities and torque figures that a rebuild depends on. Having the original figures on hand removes guesswork from both routine servicing and major repair.
