Chapters Covered in This Takeuchi Workshop Manual
I. General
Starts with the safety alert symbol and signal word definitions (DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, IMPORTANT), then covers workplace safety rules, appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment, fire extinguisher and first aid locations, lockout/tagout procedures, correct tool use, and periodic replacement of safety-critical parts. Additional safety sections address anti-explosive lighting, keeping unauthorized personnel out of the work area, preparing the work area, cleaning the machine before maintenance, stopping the engine, staying clear of moving parts, securely blocking the machine and working equipment, engine hood security, platform tilting cautions, safe fueling, hose handling, hot and pressurized component warnings, cooling system cautions, hydraulic system pressure release, track adjuster grease safety, battery disconnection and hazards, post-maintenance checks, waste disposal and welding repairs. The chapter closes with detailed cautions for disassembly and assembly, removal and installation of hydraulic units and piping, handling of seals, and a comprehensive tightening torque section covering hydraulic hoses, bite-type pipe fittings for steel pipe, joints for piping, O-ring seal type joints, UNF threaded connections, and general tightening points for ISO strength category 10.9 bolts and nuts.
II. Specifications
Begins with specification diagrams, followed by lifting capacity charts covering the TB125, TB135 and TB145 with standard arm, long arm and telescopic arm (fully extended and fully retracted) in over front (dozer blade down and up), over rear, and over side configurations. The specification tables give machine mass, engine rated output, bucket capacity, slew speed, travel speed (rubber and steel crawler, 1st and 2nd), gradeability, ground pressure, noise levels, auxiliary hydraulic flow rate, and overall dimensions for each model. The device specification tables cover engine details (Yanmar 3TNE82A-TB, 3TNE88-TB1, 3TNE88-TB, 4TNE88-TB1, 4TNE88-TB), hydraulic pump delivery, control valve, solenoid valve and pilot valve data. Unit mass tables list component dry masses for the upper machinery, lower machinery and hoe attachment. Recommended lubricants are provided with temperature charts for engine oil, hydraulic oil, fuel, coolant, gear oil and grease, along with replacement intervals and capacities. Crawler belt types, attachment combinations, and service standards (with standard and allowable values for track components, rollers, sprockets, idlers, and pin/bushing clearances) are included. Performance judging standards and reference value tables cover hydraulic oil pressure, travel speed, slew time, cylinder speed, natural drop, lever operating force, lever play, backlash, slew bearing play and crawler tension. Methods for inspecting performance are documented with diagrams.
III. Machine Configuration
Covers the drive system with construction diagrams for the engine mount (TB125/TB135 and TB145 variants), radiator and oil cooler, fuel tank, pump coupling, engine control and decelerator unit, plus removal and installation procedures for the engine, radiator and oil cooler, hydraulic pump, and fuel tank. The slew system section documents the slew bearing, slew motor, swivel joint, and grease bath, with removal and installation procedures. The travel system section covers the lower frame, crawler belt (rubber and steel, standard and automatic tensioning), carrier roller, track roller, idler, track adjuster, sprocket and travel motor, with removal and installation procedures. Also included are procedures for replacing rubber crawlers with steel crawlers, and the supplementary parts required.
IV. Hydraulic Units
The largest chapter, covering the hydraulic pump (TB125/TB135/TB145 and TB135 variants) with construction, operation, disassembly, assembly, inspection, adjustment and troubleshooting. The control valve is covered in both TB125/TB135 and TB145 versions, with construction diagrams for every block section (left travel, right travel, swing, boom, bucket, slew, arm, dozer blade, auxiliary, outlet housing, main relief valve, port relief valve, anti-cavitation valve, switch valve, load check valve), operation principles, disassembly, assembly, inspection, adjustment and troubleshooting. The pilot valve section covers construction, operation, disassembly, assembly, inspection, adjustment and troubleshooting. The cylinders section covers the boom cylinder, arm cylinder, bucket cylinder, dozer blade cylinder, swing cylinder, telescopic arm cylinder and bucket cylinder for telescopic arm, with construction diagrams, operation, disassembly, assembly, inspection, adjustment, troubleshooting and a full table of special tools. The travel motor is covered for TB125, TB135 and TB145 with construction diagrams (hydraulic motor, reduction gears, counterbalance valve, 2-speed control valve, relief block assembly), operation, disassembly, assembly, inspection, adjustment and troubleshooting. The slew motor is covered for TB125, TB135 and TB145 with construction diagrams (hydraulic motor, reduction gears, brake valve including relief valve, timer valve, check valve and anti-rebound valve), operation, disassembly, assembly, inspection, adjustment and troubleshooting. The swivel joint section covers construction, operation, disassembly, assembly, inspection, adjustment and troubleshooting.
V. Troubleshooting
Provides systematic diagnostic guidance for the overall machine (no operations, no power, boom/bucket/slew/arm not moving or slow), machine travel (will not travel, right or left travel impossible, speed drops causing curve, won’t accelerate), slewing (no slewing, right or left slewing impossible, low speed or no power, great overrun or cannot stop, cannot maintain posture on slope), boom (cylinder doesn’t move, slow or no power, drops when lever pulled gently, great natural drop), arm (cylinder doesn’t move, slow or no power, great natural drop), bucket (cylinder doesn’t move or no power, great natural drop), boom swing (swing cylinder doesn’t move) and dozer blade (cylinder doesn’t move or no power, great natural drop or won’t hold machine up). Each symptom is broken down into probable causes and remedies, with inspection procedures and reference values.
VI. Engine
The engine section of this workshop manual covers engine-related service information as published in Book No. CG4E003.
What This Takeuchi Workshop Manual Enables You to Do
The TB125, TB135 and TB145 are compact mini excavators used in tight-access construction, landscaping, utility work and rental fleets. When a hydraulic cylinder starts bypassing internally, a travel motor loses power, a slew bearing develops play, or a control valve spool sticks, the cost of guesswork is measured in downtime and unnecessary parts replacement. This workshop manual gives you the factory procedures and specifications needed to diagnose and repair these machines correctly.
You can check and adjust main relief valve pressure, port relief valve pressure, pilot relief valve pressure and slew relief valve pressure using the specified pressure detection ports and adjustment procedures. You can measure travel speed, slew time, cylinder speed, natural drop and lever operating force against the standard and allowable values in the reference tables. You can inspect track roller, carrier roller, idler, sprocket and crawler belt wear against the service standards, and adjust crawler tension to the correct dimension for rubber or steel tracks. You can disassemble and reassemble the hydraulic pump, control valve, pilot valve, cylinders, travel motor, slew motor and swivel joint using the construction diagrams, exploded views, tightening torques and special tool tables provided. You can troubleshoot electrical circuits using the wiring diagrams, and trace hydraulic circuits using the hydraulic schematics. And you can identify the correct replacement parts and understand how each system functions before you start work.
For a workshop or a fleet operator, having the correct procedures and specifications on hand reduces the risk of damaging precision-machined components, over- or under-tightening critical fasteners, or missing a wear limit that leads to premature failure. The lifting capacity charts also help you plan safe lifts with the standard arm, long arm or telescopic arm in any working position, with the dozer blade up or down.
