Description
Demag CC 2800 Crawler Crane Operating Instructions – Part 1
This is Part 1 (Operating Instructions) of the complete operating, lubricating and maintenance documentation for the Demag CC 2800 crawler-mounted crane, construction number 62 151, rated for a maximum load of 600 tonnes. Written for the crane operator, rigging crew and maintenance technicians, this volume covers everything required to set up, operate, drive and work the CC 2800 safely under all supported boom configurations – from routine daily checks to handling the electronic safety systems and Superlift attachments.
The Demag CC 2800 operating instructions manual – Part 1 is the operator-facing half of the full four-part documentation set (Part 2 covers lubrication and maintenance, Part 3 covers mounting, Part 4 covers miscellaneous items). Every procedure, switch function, warning symbol and limit value in this volume is specific to the CC 2800 and its Mercedes-Benz OM 502 LA power unit.

What This Manual Gives You
Operating a 600-tonne lattice-boom crawler crane is not a task where guesswork is affordable. The CC 2800 operating instructions Part 1 gives the operator and rigging crew the precise sequence for every action the crane performs – from the pre-start checks on the Mercedes-Benz OM 502 LA engine and its seven hydraulic pumps, through the rigging sequences for the SH, SH/LH, SW, SSL, SSL/LSL and SWSL boom variants, to the exact hand signals used between the banksman and the operator when the load path is out of sight.
The safety equipment chapter is the heart of this volume. The Electronic Crane Information System (ECIS, also referred to as PDC) combines the load limit device, limit switch monitoring, tilt and inclination display, and counterweight dolly control onto a single screen with a menu-driven interface. The manual walks through every screen: the opening screen, main menu, DS-code entry for automatic operating mode selection, the configuration programs SMAB1, SMAB2 and RG0 used during self-assembly, reeving number entry, the synchronous display for double hook block work, and the two-hook operation load entry. Without this chapter, the ECIS remains an opaque black box; with it, the operator can set the load limit device correctly for the current boom configuration before lifting.
Because it is Part 1, this volume does not include the lubrication schedules, maintenance intervals or torque tables – those are in Part 2 (lubrication and maintenance instructions). It does include the safety instructions that apply to operation, which the manufacturer explicitly cross-references when directing the reader to the relevant safety sections for mounting, maintenance and lubrication work.
Who This Manual Is For
Crane operators who need the exact startup, shutdown and emergency-stop procedure for the CC 2800. Site supervisors who must plan lifts within the load tables and permissible wind speeds. Rigging crews who need the hand signal reference and the assembly procedures for main boom, fly jib, counterweight dolly and jack-up system. Technicians and fleet managers who need to know what each illuminated switch, warning light and key switch does before troubleshooting the ECIS or the hydraulic system.
Why It Matters
The CC 2800 uses a load limit device that shuts down load-moment-increasing movements when the permitted load is exceeded. The manual is explicit that the load limit device only works correctly when the crane operator has set the correct DS code for the current boom configuration. Getting that code wrong – or entering the wrong reeving number – means the crane may lift outside its safe envelope or refuse a permitted movement. The step-by-step ECIS operating instructions in Part 1 are the difference between a crane that protects itself and one that doesn’t.
The wind speed tables in section 9.12 are another example. The permitted wind speed drops from 15.0 m/sec at a main boom length up to 36 m to 9.8 m/sec above 84 m – a critical difference when deciding whether to park the crane with the boom erected or to lower it. The dynamic pressure calculations shown in the manual’s worked examples let the operator adjust for loads with wind surface areas larger than 1.0 or 1.2 m2/t.
