Section A – Foreword, Safety and Compliance

Sets out the responsibilities of the owner, employer, trainer and operator, then details the full safety framework for STAR-series aerial work platforms. Separate hazard sections cover misuse, falling, overturning and tip-over, electrocution, explosion and fire, crushing and collision, and uncontrolled movement. The Beaufort wind scale table, minimum safe approach distances from power lines, and detailed slope, gradeability and sideslope rules are included. Product information, change-of-ownership notification and the owner information update form round out the section.

Section B – Familiarization

The largest instructional section of the manual. It introduces the STAR platform family, explains decal content and severity levels, and reproduces the full symbol legend. Every primary machine component is identified with a labelled layout – chassis, jib, telescopic mast, platform, turret assembly, counterweight, pothole protection, battery pack and control boxes. Dedicated layout pages are provided for the ground control box, the ACTIV’Screen (with home-screen, dashboard, access-code, tilt, overload and fault-code views) and the platform control box. Performance specifications, technical characteristics and the working-area and range-of-motion envelope for each model are covered, followed by every decal and marking location on the machine for CE/AS, EAC and ANSI/CSA standards.

Section C – Pre-operation Inspection

Covers working-area assessment, the daily inspection checklist and each safety functional check in turn: E-stop button verification, control activation, fault detector, buzzer test, overload sensing system, slope warning device, travel speed limitation, electronic variable speed drive, machine braking, pothole protection system, on-board charger and battery charge level. Inspection symbols (visual, torque, lubricate, replace, test) are defined for the checklist forms, and the sample broken-weld and structural inspection criteria are illustrated.

Section D – Operation Instructions

The step-by-step operating chapter. It details ground control box and platform control box start/stop procedures, mast extension and retraction controls, jib raising and lowering, turret rotation, drive and steer joystick operation, horn and other additional controls. Emergency procedures are documented in full: mast manual lowering, jib manual lowering, rescuing an operator from the platform using the overriding system on the ACTIV’Screen, and the hand-pump emergency lowering procedure with the valve-by-valve function chart. Transportation is covered end to end – putting the machine into transport position, unloading, towing and electric brake release, storage, loading and unloading by ramp, sling lifting with tie-down points on the chassis and on the mast, and forklift loading and unloading with fork-pocket placement. The section closes with hydraulic oil selection by ambient temperature and battery care, centralized refilling and charging.

Section E – General Specifications

Machine dimensions in stowed and transport position for both the CE/AS/EAC standards and the ANSI/CSA standards, major component masses (frame assembly, drive and steer wheels, turret assembly, counterweight, battery, jib assembly and platform assembly), acoustic and vibration data, and the wheel and tire assembly specifications including inspection criteria, replacement limits and torque values. The Activ’ Shield Bar secondary guarding system is documented as a fitted option – description, characteristics, safety precautions, pre-operation inspection, operation and its specific decals.

Maintenance and Inspection Program

Explains the general maintenance approach, the maintenance schedule and the four-tier inspection program: Daily inspection (operator, before use), Periodic inspection (owner, at least annually or before sale/resale), Reinforced inspection (5000 hours or 5 years) and Major inspection (10 years, then every 5 years). Repair and adjustment guidance is included, with the requirement that extensive work on safety systems be carried out by Haulotte Services technicians using genuine spare parts.

Other Information

Warranty disclosure, after-sales service contact details, manufacturer’s warranty acceptance and period (12 months or 1000 operating hours for lifting and handling equipment, 2000 operating hours for public works machinery, with 6-month spare-parts cover), conditions of warranty and a full subsidiary contact list covering Europe, the Americas, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa. A California Proposition 65 battery warning is included for the electric machines.

Why the Haulotte STAR Operator’s Manual Belongs With the Machine

This Haulotte STAR 8 STAR 22J STAR 10 STAR 26J Operator’s Manual is the factory operational reference for four self-propelled telescopic mast lifts that share the same controls, safety architecture and service logic. Whether you run a STAR 8 on a fit-out job, a STAR 10 on a warehouse racking project, a STAR 22J on an industrial maintenance contract or a STAR 26J on outdoor facade work, the correct start-up sequence, the correct daily inspection, and the correct emergency response are the same – and they are all documented here by model and by standard.

With the STAR operator manual in hand you can correctly perform the daily inspection checklist, verify every safety functional check before the machine goes into service, read and reset the ACTIV’Screen fault codes, execute the correct mast and jib manual lowering procedures in a power loss, rescue an operator from an elevated platform using the overriding system, prepare the machine for transport, towing or lifting, and select the right hydraulic oil and battery charging regime for your ambient conditions. The technical characteristics and working-area charts also let you confirm the machine is being used inside its published performance envelope before a job is planned.

Because aerial work platforms are unforgiving of wrong procedure, using the published Haulotte values and step sequences matters more than guesswork from experience on other brands. The operator manual is where Haulotte sets those values for the STAR 8, STAR 22J, STAR 10 and STAR 26J – from maximum platform capacity and wind speed limits through to the sequence for restoring drive after a slope warning. Having the correct reference in the cab or on the maintenance bench removes the doubt.
