Complete Komatsu WA380-8 Operation and Maintenance Manual (VENAM48501, printed 10-2016). Full safety, operation, scheduled maintenance and specification coverage for the WA380-8 wheel loader and its Komatsu SAA6D107E-3 engine. Instant PDF download.
Description
This is the complete Komatsu WA380-8 Operation and Maintenance Manual, the working document published under document number VENAM48501 and printed in Europe in 10-2016. It covers the WA380-8 wheel loader and its Komatsu SAA6D107E-3 engine from the operator’s seat out to the aftertreatment hardware, and it is the same reference that Komatsu intended to sit in the storage door beside the operator’s seat so it can be pulled out whenever an operating question or a service interval comes up.
What separates this manual from a generic service book is that it is written for this exact machine. The switch layouts, the monitor screens, the maintenance intervals, the torque values and the fluid capacities all belong to the WA380-8 with its EU Stage IV aftertreatment package — the Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter (KDPF) and the Urea SCR system that runs on DEF (AdBlue). If you run one WA380-8 on a quarry face or manage a fleet of Komatsu wheel loaders in a plant, this manual is the reference that keeps operations, scheduled servicing and troubleshooting aligned to what the manufacturer specified.

Safety
The safety chapter opens with the general precautions that apply before any work starts on the machine, then works through fire prevention, getting on and off correctly, the precautions for standing up from the operator’s seat and for leaving the machine, the ROPS/FOPS protective structure rules, jobsite precautions including safe distances from high-voltage cables, and the start-engine and operational precautions. It then covers maintenance safety: the warning-tag procedure, the two-worker rule when the engine must be running, handling high-pressure oil and fuel, the high-temperature coolant and oil warnings, battery handling, accumulator and gas spring handling, compressed air, and the disposal of waste materials. The full set of safety labels applied to the WA380-8 is shown with the part number of each decal, so a worn or missing label can be identified and ordered.
Operation
The operation chapter is the largest section of the manual. It begins with the general view of the machine and the names of the controls and gauges on the front and right-hand switch panels and the machine monitor, then covers the monitor display layouts including the pilot lamps, warning lamps, gauges, the ECO guidance screens, the user menu, the maintenance screens and the SCR information screens. From there it moves through the starting switch, lamp switch, turn signal, hazard, parking brake, ECSS, auto-greasing, work equipment lock, gear speed, directional selector, transmission cut-off, power mode, torque converter lockup, remote positioner, auto-digging and secondary steering switches. The operating procedures cover pre-start checks and adjustments, starting the engine in normal and cold weather, the warm-up sequence, moving off, shifting gear, switching between forward and reverse, steering, braking with the transmission cut-off function, operating the boom and bucket, the auto-digging cycle, the remote positioner setup, parking, air conditioner operation, transportation and lifting, cold-weather operation and long-term storage. Troubleshooting guidance for running out of fuel, towing and discharged batteries is also part of this chapter.
Maintenance
This is the scheduled-service heart of the manual. It lays out the maintenance schedule table with the intervals for every item, from the initial 250-hour and 1000-hour services on a new machine up to the 9000-hour items, and gives the procedure for each one. Coverage includes the air cleaner (checking, cleaning and replacing the outer and inner elements), the cooling system, engine oil and filter, the fuel prefilter and main filter cartridges with the air-bleeding procedure, the transmission case oil and strainer, the transmission oil filter, the hydraulic tank oil, strainer, filter element and breather, the axle case oil, the brake disc wear check, the air conditioner filters and belt, the KCCV filter element, the DEF filter and DEF tank breather, the slow-blow fuse, tyre pressure and selection, the auto-greasing system, and the lubrication of the drive shafts, rear fender hinges and the various pivot points. Standard tightening torques for bolts, nuts and hose fittings are included as reference tables, along with the defined-life parts list that specifies which hoses and components must be replaced on a fixed interval regardless of condition.
Specifications
The specifications chapter gives the operating weight, normal load, bucket capacity, engine model and rated horsepower for the WA380-8, together with the overall length, height, width, ground clearance, bucket width, dumping clearance and reach, dumping angle, minimum turning radius, permissible towing load and the maximum travel speed in each forward and reverse gear with and without torque converter lockup. The noise emission levels are listed, along with the vibration levels for the operator’s seat and the guide to reducing whole-body vibration.
Attachments and Options
This chapter covers the optional equipment that can be fitted to the WA380-8. It includes the bucket and tyre selection tables for different types of work and ground conditions, the multifunction mono-lever with its kickdown switch, hold switch, directional selector switch and PCS (Proportional Control Switch) — including the continuous and proportional control modes and the on-screen flow-setting procedure — and the quick coupler attachment removal and installation procedures with the lock pin indicator checks.
Replacement Parts
The replacement parts chapter lists the defined-life parts that must be replaced on a fixed schedule, the consumable parts with their part numbers, quantities and replacement intervals, and the recommended fuel, coolant and lubricant chart including the ambient temperature ranges for each Komatsu genuine fluid. It also includes the lubrication chart symbols and the method for using fuel, coolant and lubricants according to ambient temperature.
Why This Manual Matters in the Workshop
The WA380-8 is a machine built around a specific operating envelope: correct warm-up, correct hydraulic oil temperature, correct DEF handling and correct maintenance intervals. Miss those and the aftertreatment system, the transmission, the axles or the brakes can fail earlier than they should. This manual gives the exact procedures, torque values, fluid capacities, wear limits and caution sequences the machine was designed around, so a service technician or a fleet maintenance planner is working from the source document rather than from memory or guesswork.
Every scheduled task in the manual — from the 50-hour fuel-tank drain to the 9000-hour DEF hose replacement — is described with the sequence to follow, the tools to prepare and the values to check against. The safety chapter is not just a legal formality; it carries the specific procedures, like the frame lock bar, the work equipment lock, the two-worker rule and the pressure-release sequences, that keep a technician out of harm’s way while working around an articulated wheel loader. The machine monitor section explains every pilot lamp and warning that the operator can see, so an unfamiliar light on the dash does not turn into a misdiagnosis.
Whether you are diagnosing a warning on the machine monitor, adjusting the transmission cut-off position, replacing the KDPF or DEF filter, bleeding the fuel system after a filter change, checking the brake disc wear, or setting up the bucket and boom positioners, the correct answer is in this manual. The specifications and capacities are the same numbers Komatsu used when the machine was built, so consumables, replacement parts and service intervals can be planned without guesswork.
