Description

The Maserati Biturbo 2000 2500 V6 Repair Manual – Complete Workshop PDF is the full workshop documentation originally published by Officine A. Maserati S.p.A. for its after-sale service network, covering the entire first-generation Biturbo family. It walks a technician through every major service operation on the AM 452/09 2.0-litre 90Β° V6 twin-turbo engine, the ZF five-speed transaxle, the Salisbury final drive, the hydraulic braking system, MacPherson front suspension and the car’s electrical equipment, in a bilingual Italian/English layout printed side by side on the same page.

What the Document Actually Gives You

This is not a general-purpose repair guide. Each operation is described from the technician’s point of view in the exact sequence used by Maserati workshop foremen and mechanics, starting with the removal instructions and only giving the reassembly notes where the reverse sequence does not apply. Component groups are shown in complete knocked-down state – cam covers, camboxes, cylinder heads, crankcase halves, gearbox internals, clutch, turbochargers, intake plenum, carburetter and fuel tank assembly all have their own exploded-view illustrations. Where a measurement or setting is critical, the manual shows the exact figure and the tool required to check it, so the reading can be verified rather than assumed. Wiring and vacuum routing diagrams cover the ignition, starting and charging circuits, the distributor vacuum advance circuits, the air-conditioning vacuum reservoirs and the turbo overboost plumbing. The result is a document that supports not only a rebuild but also routine diagnosis of the systems that give the Biturbo its character: carburation, ignition timing, turbo boost control and valve timing.

Engine, Turbocharging and Fuel System

The engine chapter opens with the AM 452/09 technical data sheet – 82 mm bore by 63 mm stroke for 1996 cc, compression ratio 7.8-7.9, 180 HP at 6000 rpm and 25.8 kgm at 4400 rpm, firing order 1-6-2-5-3-4 and 1000 Β± 50 rpm idle with air conditioner running. From there it follows the engine out of the car and onto the stand, splitting the block from the crankcase, pulling the sleeves, measuring journal diameters and the crankpin-to-con-rod clearance, checking coupled con-rod end float and Nitemper treatment depth, and rebuilding with the correct balancing classes and colour selections. The cylinder head section covers valve guide replacement, seat re-cutting at 45Β°, valve spring load testing, shim-based valve clearance adjustment to 0.35 Β± 0.04 mm intake and 0.45 Β± 0.04 mm exhaust, and the correct heat/cooling procedure for fitting seats and guides. Camboxes, cam lift measurement, camshaft end float and the toothed-belt timing procedure with pulley alignment are covered in full, followed by installation of the ignition distributor and setup of the twin-chamber vacuum advance. Turbocharger removal, wastegate adjustment, oil feed and return routing, and intake and exhaust manifold gasket arrangements are documented, as is the Weber 36 DCNVH 16/100 carburetter – venturi, main jet, idle and progression circuits, pump jet, power valve, float level and CO adjustment with a warm engine.

Transmission, Clutch and Drivetrain

The clutch and transmission chapter starts with pressure plate removal, driven plate thickness minimum (8.5 mm), parallelism tolerance (0.4 mm max) and the correct centring and tightening procedure (3.0-3.5 kgm). Transmission removal from the car is described step by step with the steering column, exhaust and gear lever panel all accounted for. Inside the ZF S 5.18/3 gearbox the manual splits the main shaft, countershaft, reverse gear, synchro hubs and shifter fork assemblies, with marked positions for the synchro hubs and identification of the shift fork pivot pins that must be refitted in the correct order. Washer thickness determination for the input gear, the input shaft bearing, the countershaft bearing and the rear main shaft bearing are given their own procedures so the gearbox can be shimmed back to factory clearance. On the drivetrain side the Salisbury final drive is documented with the 11/41 ratio, the pinion and crown wheel setup, the oil seals and the axle shaft bearings.

Specifications, Torque Values and Scheduled Maintenance

Torque values are listed throughout – 5 kgm on the clutch bell housing, 6.5 kgm on the con-rod caps, 10 kgm on the crankcase and cylinder head nuts, 8.5 kgm on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley capscrews, 2.6-2.8 kgm on internal crankcase and cambox capscrews, 3 kgm on the auxiliaries pulley. Alignment angles, track, wheelbase (2514 mm), dry weight (1086 kg) and top speed (approximately 215 km/h) are all listed, along with tyre pressures, rim sizes and the fuse box and bulb charts. A preconsegna (delivery inspection) checklist and a 1000-1500 km service coupon list every fluid, filter, belt and check item needed for the first service, so the manual is directly usable as a maintenance planner as well as a repair reference. A full special tools catalogue with AG part numbers closes the reference section.
