1 Introduction

This opening chapter establishes the truck’s identity and the framework for its safe, compliant use. It walks through CE labelling and the EC declaration of conformity, then explains how to read the identification label โ€” model, manufacturer, serial number, year of manufacture, unladen weight, battery weight range, nominal motor power, battery voltage and nominal capacity. Rules for the operating company are set out, along with the eco-design requirements for electric motors and variable speed drives, spare parts list access, permissible use and climatic operating conditions, unauthorised use, symbol explanations, and the correct disposal of components and batteries.

2 Safety

The safety chapter is the operational backbone of this manual. It covers general safety regulations and the specific rules for handling consumables โ€” oils, hydraulic fluid and battery acid โ€” including toxicity, flammability, spill response and disposal. Noise emission values and vibration characteristic values for bodily vibrations are recorded here. Residual dangers and residual risks are discussed alongside a detailed breakdown of stability factors and the conditions that compromise it. The chapter closes with clear definitions of responsible persons: the operating company, the specialist, and the driver, including driver rights, duties and rules of behaviour, plus the requirement for regular safety inspections based on time and extraordinary incidents.

3 Overviews

This chapter is the visual orientation guide to the truck. A labelled truck overview identifies the battery plug handle (emergency stop), battery cover, switch key, traction control module, fork arms, load wheels, stabiliser wheels, drive wheel, traction motor, pump unit, electromagnetic brake, lift cylinder, Digicode (LFM Go), tiller and platform. Control and display components are covered in detail: the tiller’s handle, lowering, raising, horn, throttle and anti-collision device; the battery charge indicator with its bar display, service alarm, indicator lights, breakdown codes and hourmeter; and the Digicode option (LFM Go) with its LED status codes and programming instructions. Markings are located and explained, including brand and model labels, identification label, slinging label, cold store label, electrical danger and danger instruction labels, and the PIEK label. The serial number structure is broken down into production location, type, year of production and count number.

4 Use

The largest chapter, Use, is the day-to-day operating guide. It opens with the description of the truck โ€” drive, steering, batteries, braking system, stabilisers and lifting system โ€” followed by a comprehensive pre-start-up checklist. Commissioning checks cover charging a gel or lead battery with a wall-mounted charger, checking the brake, checking the emergency stop, checking the horn, and verifying the anti-crush safety device. Operating instructions follow: driving safety guidelines, defining directions, start-up, selecting the driving mode (Tortoise at 4 km/h and Hare at 6 km/h), forward and reverse travel, reversing direction, driving on upward and downward slopes, OptiSpeed, gentle and moderate braking, the parking brake, the Creep Speed function for confined spaces, Standby mode, and the FleetManager option with its keypad and RFID commissioning, LED colour codes, disconnection procedures, shock sensor and GSM/GPRS module. Load handling safety rules, grabbing a loading unit, transporting pallets, lift control elements, raising and lowering fork arms, using the folding platform, cold store usage, parking, battery handling (types, order picking, opening and closing the battery cover, charging with an external charger, on-board charger, adjusting the charger for gel or lead batteries, changing the battery with a trolley or moveable support), and handling the truck in an emergency (towing procedure, slinging, lifting, jacking, transporting by road, rail or lift, and driving on loading bridges) round out this chapter.

5 Maintenance

Maintenance opens with general information on service plans, lubricant grades and quantities, and the training and qualification required for servicing personnel and battery maintenance staff. Maintenance safety guidelines cover the precautions for servicing and maintenance measures and working on electrical equipment. Technical inspection and maintenance characteristics are tabulated with capacities and settings. Access to the technical compartment is explained step by step โ€” removing the lower cover, front cover, accessing the pump unit, the reducer and the brake. The 1000-hour/annual maintenance plan and the 3000-hour schedule list every procedure: cleaning, checking error codes, traction motor, transmission, steering, wheels, braking, electrical equipment, hydraulic system, load lift system, and the general condition of forks and chassis. Cleaning instructions cover washing the exterior, cleaning the electrical system, and cleaning the battery and its compartment. Steering and wheel servicing includes tyre and roller wear checks, stabiliser height adjustment, reinforced stabiliser maintenance, and transmission gear lubrication. Electrical equipment covers fuse checking, cable, terminal and battery connector inspection, battery maintenance, electrolyte level and density checks. Hydraulic systems covers oil level checks, draining the circuit, and refilling. Storage and decommissioning instructions are provided for long-term storage and recommissioning.

6 Technical specifications

The final chapter delivers the hard data. The EXU datasheet includes dimensions, weights, wheel and tyre specifications, performance data (transfer speed, lifting and lowering speeds, maximum gradient, acceleration time), drive specifications (traction motor, lift motor, battery type, voltage and capacity, battery weight, energy consumption), and speed control details. A separate datasheet covers the EXU 20S and EXU 22S option models with the folding platform, including their specific dimensions, aisle widths, turning radii and performance figures.
