Lubrication uses a crankshaft-driven gerotor pump, an oil cooler, an oil-pressure regulator, an EOP switch and an EOT sensor. Cast-iron exhaust manifolds feed the turbocharger inlet pipes. The oil pan is two-piece with the pickup in the upper pan. The intake manifold is one-piece cast aluminum with an EGR adapter.

In-Vehicle Versus Body-Off Reality

Many 6.4L jobs are written twice. Intake manifold, oil cooler, high-pressure pump, fuel tubes, turbocharger, engine mounts, rear cover and the complete engine each have a body-off path and a body-on or partial-body-lift path. Mount center bolts are torque-to-yield at 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) and must be replaced; LH mount nuts go to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) and RH nuts to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft). Rear-seal service is split into early-build and late-build installer methods, with a hard notice never to remove the rear primary crankshaft flange bolts. Cylinder heads on this diesel are not to be resurfaced. High-pressure fuel work requires the engine to be cool, fuel caps on open lines, no air tools on injectors, and pump-fitting re-torque after disturbance. Cooling hose joints use constant-tension worm-gear clamps only.
