Safety, CE Identification and Correct Use
The opening chapters set out the local laws, guidelines and accident prevention regulations that apply to these pavers, the hierarchy of the Danger, Warning, Caution and Note signal words, and the full library of safety, prohibitive and instructive pictograms used on the machine. It then covers the CE marking and Declaration of Conformity, the guarantee conditions, the residual risks that remain even after every precaution has been taken, and a very specific definition of sensibly predictable incorrect usage – from transporting persons and leaving the operator’s platform while the machine is moving, through to removing guards and spraying the machine with high-pressure cleaners. Chapter A explains the correct use and application of the SD2500C / SD2500CS and the duties of the user.
Vehicle Description and Technical Data
Chapter B describes the welded steel frame, the two independently driven caterpillar drives with rubber grouser chains, the continuously controllable hydrostatic travel drive, the hydraulic circuits fed from the pump distribution gear, the swivelling lane cleaners and the hydraulically movable operator’s platform. It gives the full technical data set for both models: dimensions, permitted angle of rise and slope and approach angle (max. 15 degrees in each direction), weights with and without screed, transport and operating speeds, paving height, maximum grain size and theoretical paving performance. It also details the hopper (approx. 6.5 m3 / approx. 15.0 t), the twin 655 mm conveyors, the 380 mm augers, the screed lifting device, the 24 V electrical system and the permitted ambient temperature range of -5 C to +45 C. Engine data is broken out by emission class – Stage IIIa / Tier 3, EU IV / Tier 4final with DOC and SCR aftertreatment, and Stage V with DOC + DPF and SCR. The identification chapter lists every warning and information sign, the CE plate, the 17-digit PIN serial number layout and the engine type plate.
Transportation, Load Securing and Towing
Chapter C11 is a practical transport chapter for anyone moving one of these pavers. It covers the required safety regulations, reduction of the paver and screed to basic width, removal of overhanging parts, the hopper and screed transport safeguards, and the correct way to load onto a low-bed trailer – including preparation of the trailer floor, driving up inclines, load distribution and the use of non-slip mats. Load securing is shown step by step for the sides, the front, and the rear with or without a side board, together with the lashing equipment ratings that apply (lashing chains LC 4,000 daN, lashing straps LC 2,500 daN, shackles 4,000 daN). Crane loading, the four lifting points and their 73.5 kN permissible load, towing with the high-pressure cartridges on the travel drive pumps and the hand pump in the engine compartment (max. 10 m/min, 15 m/min briefly in hazardous situations, 200 kN towing eye load) are all included, as is the safe parking procedure and the lifting points for hydraulic lifts.
Operation and the Input / Display Terminal
Chapters D11, D22, D30 and D41 form the operating heart of the manual. The operating panel is documented function by function – drive lever, travel drive preselector, steering potentiometer, ignition lock, emergency stop, screed lift and paving stop, tamper, vibration, screed charging and relieving, hopper and crossbeam lock, Truck Assist and Set Assist. The remote control for the screed crew is covered with its button blocks for auger and conveyor auto/manual control, levelling cylinder adjustment and crowning. The D22 chapter walks through the input and display terminal in detail: button layout, jog dial operation, the Home screen, quick settings, engine speed and material management displays, screed heater, paving parameters with course thickness presets, camera display, error memory with detailed error messages, service and info menus, remote lock and the service report. The D30 and D41 chapters then put the machine to work – starting procedures (normal and external start), indicator lamp checks, preparation for transportation, driving and stopping, preparation for paving, direction marks, loading and conveying material, starting for paving, checks during paving, paving with screed charging and relieving, and shutdown procedures.
Set-Up, Modification and Auger / Screed Work
Chapter E10 is the set-up and modification chapter. It covers distribution auger height adjustment – mechanically with the ratchet or hydraulically from the operating panel – for grain sizes up to 16 mm and above, and for large working widths with the brace. It includes the full auger extension chart for working widths from 3.14 m up to 8.90 m, showing exactly which material shafts and auger extension parts are needed at each width, plus installation of the outer auger bearing and auger end bearing, mounting and aligning the auger brace, the hinged material shaft, hopper scraper, crossbeam guide, offsetting the screed, and the levelling and grade control options (slope controller, height sensing device, grade control system, sensor arm, big ski 9 m / 13 m, levelling shoe 6 m / 9 m). The automatic steering unit, MATTRACKER, auger temperature measurement, auger limit switch mounting and the material bucket accessory are also documented, including the bucket’s own load-securing and crane-lifting instructions.
The Complete Maintenance Reference
The F-series is the largest part of the book and is split by assembly so a technician can go straight to the system in question. F10 and F25 give the safety notes and the maintenance review chart with interval columns from 10 hours through to 5000 hours and beyond. F31 covers the conveyor chain tension, drive chains, deflectors and conveyor plates. F40 covers the auger assembly – outer auger bearing, auger planetary gear, drive chains, auger box, seals and sealing rings, gearbox bolt torques, outer bearing mounting screws and auger blade replacement. F50, F54 and F56 cover the engine assembly separately for Tier 3, Tier 4F and Stage V, including the fuel tank, lube oil system, fuel system with prefilter and water separator, air filter, cooling system, AdBlue / DEF tank, dosing unit, crankshaft ventilation filter and the diesel oxidation catalytic converter. F60 covers the hydraulic system – tank, suction/return flow filter, high-pressure filters, pump distribution gear, bleeder, hydraulic hoses with their marking, storage period and period of use, and the auxiliary flow filter. F73 covers the drive units (chain tension, bottom plates, rollers, planetary gear and screw connections). F81 covers the electrical system (batteries, alternator, fuses and relays). F90 covers the central lubrication system and bearing points. F100 covers tests, checks, cleaning, preservation and the standard metric and fine metric bolt torque tables for strength classes 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9.
Lubricants, Capacities and Operating Substances
Chapter F114 collects the capacities and approved substances in one place: 320 litres of diesel (Tier 3 / Tier 4F) or 350 litres (Stage V), 15 litres of engine oil with filter change, 28.0 or 32.0 litres of coolant depending on emission class, a 240 litre hydraulic oil reservoir (215 litres on Stage V), 7.0 litres in the pump distribution gear, 3.8 litres in each drive unit planetary gear (5.0 litres on SD2550C/CS), 1.5 litres in each auger planetary gear, 4.0 litres in the auger box, 115 grams of hot bearing grease per outer auger bearing, and 19 or 37 litres of AdBlue / DEF. The chapter also lists approved fuels, engine oils, coolants, hydraulic oils and separator emulsions so the correct fluid is used every time.
Why This Operating Instructions Manual Belongs in the Cab
The SD2500C and SD2500CS are precise paving machines, and most of what goes wrong on a job – wavy mats, screed marks, blocked conveyors, overheating hydraulics, a screed that will not lift – traces back to a setting, a procedure or an interval that was missed. This manual is where those settings, procedures and intervals are defined. It tells you the permitted slope before you even think about a hill, the exact auger height for the mix you are laying, the pressure to set on the screed charging and relieving circuits, the sequence for releasing the traction brakes before towing, the interval at which every filter and lubricant has to be changed, and the torque figure for every bolt the workshop will touch. Whether you are a paving foreman setting up the screed for a new width, an operator learning the display terminal, or a maintenance technician planning a service, the answers are in here.
