Description

Yamaha F100B / F100C Service Manual – F100BET & F100CET

This is the full Yamaha service manual for the F100B and F100C four-stroke outboard motors, covering the F100BET and F100CET variants. Published under document number 60C-28197-5D-11 as the 1st Edition, June 2001, it is the same manual a Yamaha workshop uses when stripping, measuring and rebuilding these motors – from the top cowling down to the gearcase and the power trim and tilt unit.

The Yamaha F100B and F100C are in-line four-cylinder, four-stroke, DOHC, 16-valve outboards displacing 1,596 cm3. This Yamaha F100B F100C service manual treats them as two closely related but mechanically distinct machines: the F100B carries the bracket and PTT unit proven on the two-stroke V4/V6 motors, while the F100C adopts the compact single-cylinder trim-and-tilt arrangement from the F100A. That difference runs right through the bracket, lower unit and shimming chapters, so the manual keeps the two models separated where the hardware differs.

What this Yamaha F100B F100C service manual actually gives you

This is not a condensed owner’s booklet. The F100B F100C workshop manual works through each system in the same order a technician does the job: strip it down, measure it against the printed service limits, decide what is reusable, then reassemble to a stated torque or angle. Every exploded diagram is numbered, and every numbered part appears in a components list alongside bolt sizes, O-ring dimensions and quantities. Where a fastener is a plastic-region bolt – the cylinder head bolts, connecting rod bolts and crankcase bolts all use this method on these engines – the manual gives the first-stage torque, the second-stage torque and the final turning angle in degrees.

The Yamaha F100B and F100C service manual also carries the measurement data that decides whether a part goes back in or gets replaced. Cylinder bore taper and out-of-round limits, piston-to-cylinder clearance, piston ring end gap and side clearance, camshaft lobe height, camshaft runout, valve stem diameter, valve guide clearance, valve seat contact width and valve spring free length are all listed with their tolerance bands. Crankshaft journal and crank pin diameters feed into bearing selection tables that use stamped crankcase and crankshaft numbers, and the same system is used for the connecting rod big end bearings. If you have ever guessed at a main bearing colour, this is the chapter that stops you guessing.

Lower unit, shimming and gear backlash

The lower unit chapters are split between the F100B and the F100C because they are not the same gearcase. Gear ratios differ – the F100B runs 2.15 (28/13) and the F100C runs 2.31 (30/13) – and the F100C does not carry a reverse gear shim, so no reverse shim positioning is required on that model. The manual walks through pinion shim selection using the pinion height gauge and the stamped P mark, forward gear shim selection using the F mark, and reverse gear shim selection using the R mark on the F100B. Backlash is then verified with a dial gauge and backlash indicator, with correction formulas for adding or removing shims when the reading falls outside the 0.19-0.53 mm forward range or the 0.86-1.26 mm reverse range on the F100B.

Power trim and tilt, fuel and ignition

The PTT coverage is genuinely detailed. Both the F100B and F100C units are broken down to the tilt cylinder, trim cylinders, free piston, relief valves, shuttle pistons, gear pump and motor. Assembly instructions include fluid quantities, the recommended ATF Dexron II fill, end screw torque values, and hydraulic pressure test figures for checking the up and down relief pressures with a gauge. Bleeding procedures are given both on the bench and built-in on the boat.

On the fuel side, the manual covers the Prime Start enrichment system, the acceleration pump circuit with its in-line one-way valve and dashpot, float height adjustment, pilot screw setting, throttle link rod adjustment and throttle position sensor voltage setting. The ignition chapters explain the computer-controlled CDI system, its starting, warm-up and normal operating modes, the ignition timing map, and the fail-safe controls for over-revolution, overheating and low oil pressure – including the exact rpm steps at which cylinders are cut.

Who this Yamaha F100B F100C workshop manual suits

This PDF is aimed at anyone doing real work on an F100BET or F100CET: marine mechanics running a shop, boat owners who service their own outboard, and buyers of a used motor who want to know what they are getting into before pulling a cylinder head. It is written for someone with a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical work, and it expects you to use the recommended special tools where they are called for – flywheel holder, flywheel puller, valve spring compressor, bearing pullers, ring nut wrench, pinion height gauge, shimming plate and the rest.

Because it covers two models that share a great deal but not everything, it is worth checking the model-specific sections before ordering parts. The F100B and F100C use different bracket assemblies, different PTT units, different lower unit shimming arrangements and different gear ratios, and the manual flags each of these rather than lumping them together.

The Yamaha F100B F100C outboard service manual downloads immediately after checkout. There is no shipping and no waiting for a printed book. The file opens on a laptop, tablet or phone in the workshop, and any page – a torque table, an exploded view of the cylinder head, the wiring diagram, a shimming formula – can be printed and taken to the bench. Having the correct torque figures, bearing selection tables, oil clearances and backlash values in front of you is what keeps a rebuild reliable, and it is the difference between a motor that runs for another season and one that comes back apart.
