Description

DAF CF85 Maintenance Manual – DW13278604

This is the full DAF CF85 maintenance manual, issued by DAF Trucks N.V. under document number DW13278604. It is the working reference for scheduled servicing on CF85 trucks, covering everything from the XE engine and its V-belt drives through the ZF gearboxes, rear axles, brakes and steering gear. Every procedure is written for the technician working on the vehicle, and the manual pairs those procedures with the torque values, filling capacities and adjustment limits needed to complete the job correctly.

XE Engine

The engine section opens with the general data for the XE engine, including valve clearance settings for cold and hot adjustment (0.50 mm inlet and exhaust) and the DEB setting of 1.40 mm. Two V-belt tension tables are given, one for the AVX raw-edge belt used on the air-conditioning compressor drive and one for the XPB raw-edge belt used on the steering pump drive of FAX vehicles, with setting, test, minimum and adjusting tensions for new and run-in belts. Tightening torques follow for the lubrication system, fuel system, cylinder head cover, DEB bolts and the V-belt tensioner central bolt. Filling capacities close the chapter with total oil capacity including cooler and filter, sump maximum and minimum levels, and cooling system capacity with and without an integrated retarder.

Gearbox

Torque data is provided for the ZF 8S-151/181 and 16S-151/181/221 gearboxes, covering the level check/filler plug and the M24, M38 and drain plugs, plus the same gearboxes fitted with an integrated retarder. The ZF AS Tronic range is treated separately with its own level check/filler and drain plug values, again including the integrated retarder variant. Filling capacities are listed for each ZF 8S/16S model and for the ZF AS Tronic 12 AS variants.

Rear Axle

Rear axle torque values cover the filler and drain plugs and hub plugs (Torx wrench), plus the M24 U-bolt nuts in property class 8 and 10 and the M22 U-bolt nuts used on the leading rear axle. The manual notes the flanged nut and yellow zinc plated hexagonal nut values separately and reminds the reader to tighten the two U-bolt nuts alternately and evenly. Filling capacities are broken down by axle type (1339, 1347, 1354, 1355(T) and 1132(T), including first and second axle) with separate wheel hub quantities for the 1354, 1355(T) and 1132(T) axles.

Brakes

The brake chapter covers the automatic brake adjuster travel for the Haldex and FTP axle versions and the minimum reverse torque of the adjusting bolt. This is the baseline data a technician uses before checking brake adjustment and shoe or disc condition elsewhere in the manual.

Steering Gear

Steering gear general data gives the maximum steering ball joint axial clearance. Tightening torques follow for the filter plug without flange and the filter plug with flange on the fluid flow control valve block of the EMAS system, and for the steering column universal joint attachment bolt, which the manual specifies should be renewed with a new original bolt and nut.

Front Axle and Leading Rear Axle 09N044

Front axle torque data covers the M20 U-bolt nuts in property class 10 and the M22 U-bolt nuts used on the leading rear axle, with the same even-tightening instruction as the rear axle. The 09N044 leading rear axle chapter (FTP-type vehicles) lists wheel bearing play of 0 mm and torques for the hub nut, hub cap and M20 U-bolt nut.

Threaded Connections and Specifications

The threaded connections chapter explains dipped threaded connections, the correct handling of re-used fasteners, cleaning and inspection, and lubrication of threads and clamping faces before tightening. The specifications chapter sets out the fluids, oil, lubricants, coolant and fuel requirements and the safety instructions for handling them, with a cross-reference to the separate Fluids and lubricants specification manual.

Maintenance Intervals and Activities

The maintenance schedule splits vehicles into groups I, II and III depending on use, from building site and quarry operation through urban and regional transport to long-distance traffic, and gives the intermediate inspection, X-service and Y-service intervals for each. Guidance is included on the effect of diesel sulphur content and PTO hours on oil change intervals, maintenance in special operating conditions, and the first service inspection window. Maintenance activities are then listed as first service inspection, annual Y-service, mileage-dependent X-service and intermediate inspection overviews, covering the cab and electrical system, engine, cooling and fuel system, steering gear and brake system, and drive and chassis.

Safety, General and Inspection

Safety instructions, general information and the warning symbol are covered before the inspection and adjustment chapter, which walks through pedal rubbers, battery fluid level and terminals, cab tilting pump fluid level, cab fastening, engine oil level, valve clearance, DEB play, poly-V-belt, V-belt tension, coolant freezing point, fuel and cooling system leaks, exhaust system, radiator and intercooler fouling, and the air inlet dust trapping valve. Steering, brake, drive and chassis inspections follow, including load-sensing control valves, hydraulic trailing-axle device, differential lock, drive shaft play, fifth wheel, trailer coupling, clutch, gearbox and rear axle leaks, wheel hub leaks, shock absorbers, spring leaves and U-bolts, air suspension bellows and the automatic lubrication system.

Removal, Installation, Draining, Filling, Cleaning and Lubrication

The final chapters give the practical procedures: removal and installation of the interior filter element, air filter element, coolant filter, engine oil filter, centrifugal filter rotor, fuel filter element, fuel prefilter/water separator element, valve cover, steering gear filter element, EMAS oil filter, air dryer filter element, gearbox filter element and wheel hub. Draining and filling covers battery fluid, engine oil, cooling system, fuel system bleeding, differential, wheel hub and gearbox, plus filling the grease supply of the automatic lubrication system. Cleaning sections cover battery poles, radiator and intercooler, the vehicle, gearbox vents and rear axle vent, and lubrication closes with the X-service lubrication schedule.

Why This DAF CF85 Maintenance Manual Matters

Servicing a CF85 without the correct values is guesswork. This manual gives you the actual torque figures for U-bolt nuts, gearbox drain plugs, DEB bolts and hub nuts, the real filling capacities for each axle and gearbox variant, and the correct valve clearance and V-belt tension values for the XE engine. It also tells you when to use an extended changing interval and when it is not permitted, so you protect the driveline instead of shortening its life. Whether you are running a workshop, maintaining your own fleet, or buying your first CF85, this DAF CF85 maintenance manual PDF keeps the correct procedure and the correct number in front of you.
